Abstract

Effervescent pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of hepatic disorders comprise glucurovic acid or a therapeutically useful derrivative thereof e.g. a salt, ester, glucuronamide or glucuronolactone and a mixture of a solid acidic substance and a solid substance which, on dissolution in water reacts with the acid to form carbon dioxide. Specified acidic substances are tartaric, citric, succinic and ascorbic acids, monosodium fumarate and sodium biphosphate. As substances which react with the acid there are mentioned carbonates and bicarbonates sodium bicarbonate being preferred. The compositions may be in the form of tablets which may comprise conventional pharmaceutical excipients and further therapeutically active substances e.g. vitamins e.g. thiamine hydrochloride, analgeous, caffeine, thioctic and orotic p acids, amino acids.
