Abstract
A coating composition for high temperature uses comprises a silicone resin and, per stoichiometric equivalent of the resin, from 0.4 to 4 equivalents of the reaction product of ammonia and a mixture of 20 to 80 mol. per cent of MeSiCl3 and 80 to 20 mol. per cent of Me2SiCl2 (Me = methyl). The siloxane resin may contain alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or haloaryl radicals. The ammonolysis of the silane mixture using liquid or gaseous ammonia is conducted at temperatures below 0 DEG C. in the absence of water and in the presence of an inert solvent, e.g. methylene chloride. Three preparations are given. In the coating application the silocane containing SiOH apparently combines chemically with the silazane to form further siloxane linkages. In a typical Example (1) a toluene solution of a silicone resin and a silazane was used to coat steel panels. Aluminium powder may be added as a pigment.
