Abstract

Chrome ore has its iron content reduced and magnesia content increased by heating with hydrated magnesium chloride at 800-1400 DEG C. for a time sufficient to decompose the magnesium chloride and volatilize off the formed iron chlorides and convert the magnesium content to magnesia. The product can be used to form refractory bricks.
