Abstract

1,000,107. Contacting in liquids. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. May 28, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 21320/63. Heading B1F. A process for contacting immiscible liquids, liquids and gases in the presence or absence of finely divided solids is carried out in reactor 1. In relation to the contacting of immiscible liquids the light phase is supplied at 3 and discharged at 4 while the heavy phase is supplied at 2 and discharged at 5. The rotor 6 rotates between stator rings 8 and 10 of approximately equal surface area and the surface area of the rings is approximately equal to half the free passage of the housing. The rotor may be cylindrical or may be strips which describe a cylindrical surface. The stators on the side where the disperse phase flows against it may be provided with steel wool and/or synthetic fibres to promote coalescence. The grids 15 and 17 also promote coalescence.
