Abstract

A gear case for supporting a gear assembly for an automobile comprises a transmission case 24 for receiving a plurality of gear shafts 12 and a clutch case 26 for covering a major part of the plurality of gear shafts 12. According to the invention a support plate 10 connected to the transmission case 24 is provided, wherein at least two shaft bearings 18 respectively for bearing one gear shaft 12 of the plurality of gear shafts 12 are connected to the support plate 10. Since the shaft bearings 18 are not connected to the clutch case 26 but to an additional support plate 10 a better visibility during the assembling is provided, so that it is facilitated to insert the plurality of gear shafts 12 into the respective shaft bearing 18. A method of assembling such a gear case is also claimed.
