Abstract

A sealing strip 13 has two ends 13A and 13B which are bonded together by heat-bonding foil 15. Electromagnetic radiation/a magnetic or electrical field and/or heat are applied to the sealing strip 13 and the foil 15 so as to cause the flexible material of the sealing strip 13 and the relatively rigid material of the carrier 21 embedded within the strip 13 to bond to the foil 15. This provides a strong bond between the ends 13A and 13B of the strip 13. The electromagnetic radiation/magnetic or electrical field causes inductive or capacitive heating of the cater 21, which is formed from e.g. metal. An apparatus 30 for facilitating the bonding operation is also disclosed.
