Abstract

A luminaire for use in illuminating a picture or other work of art comprising an illumination head (10) including at least one fluorescent tube (42), a reflector (40) for directing light to a light outlet (38) of the illumination head (10), and a high frequency ballast unit for driving the at least one fluorescent tube (42). The luminaire may further comprise a diffuser (50), a polarising means (60) and/or an ultra-violet filter.
