Cette invention fournit un procédé pour faire fonctionner un dispositif d'éclairage automobile (1) comprenant une pluralité de sources lumineuses à semi-conducteurs (2). Ce procédé comprend les étapes consistant à fournir à une unité de commande (3) une base de données préliminaire des caractéristiques de ville, à acquérir des données d'image au moyen d'une caméra (4), à extraire des données de caractéristiques d'image (5) des données d'image, à comparer les données de caractéristiques d'image (5) avec les caractéristiques de ville de la base de données et à décider si une fonctionnalité de ville doit être activée ou désactivée sur la base de la comparaison entre les données de caractéristiques d'image (5) et les caractéristiques de ville.Figure pour l'abrégé : figure 3b
