L’invention concerne un procédé de liquéfaction d’un courant d’hydrocarbures (102) tel que le gaz naturel mettant en œuvre au moins un échangeur de chaleur comprenant au moins une première partie (E2) et une deuxième partie (E2’) comprenant chacune des plaques (221, 222) délimitant entre elles plusieurs premiers passages (10) et plusieurs deuxièmes passages (10’), ledit procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes : passage d’un courant d’hydrocarbures (102) dans (E2) et (E2’), introduction d’au moins un courant réfrigérant (202) dans (E2) avec écoulement descendant, sortie du courant réfrigérant (202) de (E2), introduction du courant réfrigérant (201) dans (E2’), détente du courant réfrigérant (201) de sorte à produire un premier courant réfrigérant diphasique (203), introduction d’au moins une partie du premier courant réfrigérant diphasique (203) dans les deuxièmes passages (10’), sortie du premier courant réfrigérant diphasique (203) de façon à obtenir un deuxième courant réfrigérant diphasique (204), introduction d’au moins une partie du deuxième courant réfrigérant diphasique (204) dans (E2) avec écoulement ascendant dans les premiers passages (10), vaporisation au moins partiellement de ladite au moins une partie du premier courant réfrigérant diphasique (203) et de ladite au moins une partie de deuxième courant réfrigérant diphasique (204) pour produire un courant d’hydrocarbures au moins partiellement liquéfié (220) en sortie de (E2’). Selon l’invention, (E2) présente une première section de passage de fluide S1 = x1 x y1 x N1, et (E2’) présente une deuxième section de passage de fluide S2= x2 x y2 x N2, avec S2 < S1.
