The present invention relates, in general, to the authentication of the holder of a document, in particular of documents relating to the identity of their holder.

More specifically, the invention relates to a system for authenticating a document holder.

Currently, documents or identity documents such as identity cards, residence permits, driving licenses or even passports have information on the document holder, stored on a chip, which makes it possible to identify but also to authenticate the holder.

Among this information related to the holder, there is generally an image or photograph, one or more imprints, a signature, certain elements of civil status, etc.

However, these chips have a high cost and must have an operating life at least equal to the period of validity of the title in which they are contained, sometimes more than ten years.

In addition, the information contained on the chip is not always sufficient to reliably authenticate the holder of the document.

With reference to the above-mentioned drawbacks, the present invention therefore relates to a system making it possible to improve and make the authentication process of the document holder more reliable, but also to a reliable authentication system, while nevertheless remaining inexpensive to manufacture.

There is therefore proposed a system for authenticating a holder of at least one document, comprising a device for reading a code carried by the document, a database in which images of holders of documents are stored and means for extracting from the database the image of said holder which corresponds to the code read by the reading device and for displaying on a screen the image extracted from the database.

Advantageously, the authentication system can comprise an authentication terminal comprising the reading device and the screen on which the image extracted from the database is displayed.

Preferably, the authentication terminal includes a software application for interrogating the database which communicates with the database by telecommunication network.

In one embodiment, the image can be a holographic image.

Advantageously, the authentication system can include means for rotating the holographic image displayed on the screen.

The authentication system can further comprise means for extracting characteristic information from the holder from the database and for displaying this information on the displayed image.

Preferably, the image extracted from the database includes the bust of the holder.

Advantageously, the authentication system can include means for reading an image of the holder appearing on the document and for displaying the image read on the screen simultaneously with the image extracted from the database.

The image of the document holder, as well as characteristic information, is then displayed on the screen of the authentication terminal.

The image and the characteristic information could be stored during the filing of the request intended to establish a document.
