Description
The invention relates to a bitumen painting process. The invention more particularly relates to a bitumen painting process specially adapted to obtain a colored shade, other than the original brown gradient of pure or diluted bitumen, without the presence of a pigment corresponding to the color tone obtained.
Bitumen is a fossil substance composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons. Its properties allow a variety of uses, such as insulation, glue or paint. Conventionally, the use of bitumen in the field of painting is an old and known process. Bitumen is regularly used for making glazes, especially in the field of oil painting. Bitumen can also be used as such as paint. Diluted with oil, it can be applied in several layers superimposed, very fine, to realize a drawing.
Used directly as paint, bitumen naturally gives very dark brown tints. Depending on the dilution ratio, it is possible to obtain a wider chromatic range tending toward brighter browns. Moreover, chalk, reduced to powder and often recomposed in stick, is used conventionally for writing or drawing. Surprisingly, the addition of chalk powder on a layer of bitumen paint to vary the pictorial effect sometimes reveals shades of color other than the original brown gradient. The invention aims to provide a bitumen painting process for obtaining a color tint, distinct from the natural color of pure or diluted bitumen. The aim of the invention is to provide a reproducible solution to this problem by promoting the phenomenon of light diffusion within the composition obtained. The aim of the invention is to provide a method for obtaining a colored tint, in particular blue tint, from bitumen and an inorganic powder. This colored hue, other than the original brown gradient of the bitumen, is obtained without the presence of pigment of the colored hue, and thus without blue pigment for a blue hue. The color thus obtained is distinct from the natural color of pure or diluted bitumen.
More specifically, the invention relates to a bitumen painting process on a substrate comprising the following steps: - application of a first bitumen layer 2 on said substrate 1; - application of a final layer of fixative liquid 5; each of the applications being followed by a drying step; characterized in that said method comprises a step of applying at least one intermediate layer of inorganic powder 3, covered with a transparent film of drying oil 4.
Advantageously, the inorganic powder 3 is white and contains at least one bleaching or brightening agent.
In particular, the whitening or brightening agent comprises zinc sulphide, barium sulphate or their mixtures, especially lithopone white.
Avantageusement, la poudre inorganique 3 comprend des particules nanométriques, ayant un diamètre inférieur à 110 nm.Advantageously, the inorganic powder 3 comprises nanometric particles having a diameter of less than 110 nm.

Advantageously, the number of intermediate layers is between five and thirty.
Avantageusement, le substrat 1 est du papier.Advantageously, the substrate 1 is paper.
Advantageously, the bitumen is diluted. In particular, the bitumen dilution liquid is turpentine. The invention also relates to a paint kit comprising at least bitumen and inorganic powder characterized in that it is suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention.
In particular, the paint kit comprises at least bitumen and lithopone white powder. Other advantages and features of the invention will appear on reading the following embodiments, taken by way of non-limiting examples, and the accompanying drawing. The single figure shows a sectional view of the structure obtained at the end of the implementation of the method.
The process which is the subject of the invention relates only to bitumen, that is to say a very viscous mixture of high molecular weight hydrocarbons and organic substances which are very rich in carbon and in hydrogen. The bitumen can be of natural origin, permeating the cracks of sedimentary rocks. There is also artificial bitumen from the distillation of crude oil.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the bitumen used is a natural bitumen from the hydrocarbon source of Puy de la Poix (Puy-de-Dome). Industrial bitumen can also be used. In general, the invention relates to all types of bitumen.
Bitumen can be used pure or diluted, especially with turpentine.
The inorganic powder used is advantageously a white powder, for example chalk referenced Pastel Tendre manufacturer Rembrandt. This type of chalk is not identical to mineral chalk (ie CaCO3 calcium carbonate from sedimentary rocks). The inorganic powder used in the preferred embodiment is lithopone white. The lithipone white contains in particular zinc, barium and possibly strontium. Specifically, lithipone white is a mixture of barium sulphate and zinc sulphide, with some impurities, especially impurities including rare earths. The barium sulphate may comprise strontium and advantageously corresponds to the formula Ba1-xSrxSO4 with x <1 and x h 0. In general, the method which is the subject of the invention requires an inorganic powder comprising a bleaching or brightening agent.
Preferably, the inorganic powder is obtained by manually grinding on a marble slab.
The inorganic powder advantageously comprises a mixture of such nanometric particles and micrometric particles having a diameter ranging from 1 μm to 10 μm. In particular, the micrometric particles have a diameter of about 4 μm.
Le rapport en nombre (% de particules nanométriques)/(% de particules micrométriques), les % étant exprimés par rapport au nombre total de particules nanométriques et micrométriques, varie avantageusement de 15% à 50%, plus avantageusement de 15% à 30%.The ratio by number (% of nanometric particles) / (% of micrometric particles), the% being expressed relative to the total number of nanometric and micrometric particles, advantageously varies from 15% to 50%, more preferably from 15% to 30% .
Le rapport en volume (particules nanométriques) / (particules micrométriques) varie avantageusement de 2% à 5%, plus avantageusement de 3% à 4%.The ratio by volume (nanoscale particles) / (micrometer particles) advantageously varies from 2% to 5%, more preferably from 3% to 4%.
It can also randomly exist particles of larger size within the same powder in lower proportions than the two typologies indicated above.
In particular, two typologies of particles then coexist within the inorganic powder, in particular within the lithipone white powder: nanoparticles of about 80 nm in diameter and micrometric particles of about 4 μm in diameter. These two types of particles are present in a particular ratio ratio of about 1 to 6, i.e., there are about six times as many nanoparticles as microparticles. There are also random particles of larger size within the same powder in lower proportions than the two typologies indicated above.
All of your particle diameters and number distributions are determined by LASER particle size.
The inorganic powder interlayer is covered with a transparent film of drying oil.
The inorganic powder is advantageously applied in dry form, that is to say without suspension or in solution in a liquid medium or other. The drying oil can be a touch-up oil, a transparent retouching varnish or a liquid fixative. For example, it may be the retouching varnish "Turner" Sennelier. According to another embodiment, the drying oil and the fixative liquid used for the final layer 5 may be identical.
A titre indicatif, le nombre de couches intermédiaires peut notamment être compris entre 5 et 30.Advantageously, the steps of applying an intermediate layer of inorganic powder and then a transparent film of drying oil are repeated. Advantageously, the process comprises a step of drying the drying oil film of the preceding layer before the step of applying a new intermediate layer of inorganic powder coated with a transparent film of drying oil. As an indication, the number of intermediate layers may in particular be between 5 and 30.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is described in connection with the single figure. The method consists of carrying out a succession of precise layer applications. In this particular embodiment, the substrate 1 is a sheet of paper, for example paper Sennelier "roughing" 80g. Preferably, the bitumen, applied as first layer 2, is diluted with turpentine. This first very dark brown layer 2 is finely spread with a brush, to obtain a thickness of a few hundred micrometers. The whole then dries in the ambient air between 8h and 48h, for example a whole night.
The first layer of bitumen 2 is then covered with at least one intermediate layer consisting of an inorganic powder layer as defined above 3 and a drying oil layer 4. The inorganic powder is applied directly to the finger or to the dry brush. In this case, wait 5 to 10 minutes after application and tap or blow to remove excess powder. The layer of inorganic powder 3 is then covered with a transparent film of drying oil 4. The oil is applied by brush in a thin layer for fast drying without cracking. As an indication, the drying time required at the end of this step is between 1:30 and 3:00.
Then, the operation is repeated by applying an intermediate layer of inorganic powder 3 and drying oil 4 again, while respecting the drying time. After the application of three superposed intermediate layers, advantageously with the lithipone white powder, it has been found that a blue color tone is measurable by optical instruments of spectral reflectance. This colored effect is appreciable to the naked eye from a stack of about seven intermediate layers. By way of indication, the number of intermediate layers may in particular be between 5 and 30. At the end of the process, the design and its color tone are fixed with a fixing liquid 5, for example a fixative for charcoal, transparent to near UV, which is the last layer.
The composition 10 produced by following the method which is the subject of the invention, either according to its generic mode or according to the particular mode described above, consists of a complex stack of layers of inorganic powder 3 superimposed in a translucent mixture of oil 4, over a layer of bitumen advantageously diluted 2.
When natural light illuminates this composition 10, three phenomena take place simultaneously:
The Rayleigh scattering of the nanoparticles of the inorganic powder favoring, in the case of lithipone white, especially the diffusion of blue (to the detriment of red), the absorption by the bitumen layer 2 of the reflection of visible light, which allows better to isolate the colored light emitted and diffused by the inorganic powder, and thus for example the blue light emitted and diffused by the lithipone white powder.
These different phenomena explain the bluish color that can be obtained at the end of the implementation of the process. As for the color of the sky due, also to the Rayleigh diffusion, it is possible to obtain by the same process purplish, orange or red hues, especially purplish. To modify the color obtained, it is necessary to choose an inorganic powder of different nature, to have an emission induced in a different color than blue and to change the size of the particles or the thickness traversed.
In the end, the method which is the subject of the invention makes it possible to obtain a colored hue, generally blue, without the presence of pigment of the colored hue, and thus without blue pigment for a blue hue. The color thus obtained is distinct from the natural color of pure or diluted bitumen. The invention also relates to a paint kit for implementing said method. The invention applies to the field of painting, especially artistic painting. It can also find applications in the fields of architecture, decoration and creative hobbies.
