Abstract

Disclosed is a flat aluminum alloy product with a thickness greater than 12.5 mm having improved properties in the thickness. This product is obtained by adjusting the stirring conditions during the casting of the ingot serving to obtain the flat product. The casting process is characterized by casting with stirring induced by a non-stationary external force field or casting with stirring induced by a stationary external force field clamping. The transformation process comprises dissolving at a temperature above 450 ° C, quenching and tempering or maturing to obtain a flat aluminum alloy product. Optionally a scalping operation can be performed during the transformation process in order to eliminate unacceptable surface defects if a rolling operation is performed subsequently. The invention makes it possible in particular to increase the thickness of the cast product without altering or even improving the elongation in the cross-short direction of the final product.
