Abstract
A chemical-electric hybrid space propulsion system comprising a chemical propulsion module and an electric propulsion module. The chemical propulsion module includes an electric pump configured to pump fuel and / or oxidizer into a combustion chamber and the electric propulsion module includes an electric power system for ionizing and ejecting atoms from a propellant mass. The electric pump is connected to the electrical supply system to be supplied with electrical energy. The invention is of interest to all actors active in the field of space propulsion. The proposed system makes it possible to optimize the mission performance (duration and payload mass) of an orbital stage or of an upper stage of a launcher, at the cost of a limited system complexity (thanks to the connection between the chemical propulsion bay and electric).
