Femoral portion (1) of a knee prosthesis, for attachment to the distal end of a femur, having one, preferably two condyles (2), and a trochlear portion (3) in the outer surface of the femur which is defined a trochlear path which forms a groove extending up to medial and lateral crest lines (21, 22) respectively, the trochlear path extending from the anterior end (4), or top of the trochlear portion, from the femoral portion to the beginning of the condyle (s), two lateral and medial margins (24, 25) being defined between the two medial and lateral edges (26, 27) of the trochlear portion and the two medial and lateral ridges respectively, characterized in that the lateral bank (24) is refined relative to the medial bank (25) from the vertex (4) of the trochlear portion to a point of the trochlear path corresponding to a flexion between 60 ° and 90 °, in particular 70 ° (α).

Description

The present invention relates to a femoral portion of a total knee prosthesis, as well as to a total knee prosthesis having a femoral portion of this kind.

A femoral portion is intended to be attached to the distal end of a femur. It comprises in general one, preferably two condyles, of shape, in section in the anteroposterior plane, substantially circular, which ensures (s), by rotation on one or more congruent upper surfaces of an insert disposed on a plate of a tibial part, flexion of the knee.

In addition to the condyles, the femoral part also includes a trochlear part in which a trochlean path is defined, this path, or trochlear groove, traced in the outer surface of the trochlea part, is followed by a patella that centralizes the forces developed by the quadriceps by increasing its lever arm and transmitting these forces to the tibia without friction. It is by the displacement of the patella on this trochlean path that femoro-patellar efforts are transmitted during flexion. These efforts are very important and it is desired to have a throat as deep as possible to increase the engagement of the patella and avoid any exit from it in its path which would cause dislocation, especially under the action of medio -latéraux. However, these prostheses are painful to wear.

The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art by proposing a femoral part for a knee prosthesis which, while providing the same safety as the current prostheses vis-à-vis the risk of dislocation, particularly relating to an output of the patella of his way, is less painful to bear for the patient.

For a femoral part of a knee prosthesis, a reference position or orientation corresponding to a bending angle of 0 °, ie the position or orientation of the prosthesis when the knee is stretched, is defined. that is to say, not bent.

The femoral portion has an outer surface that is defined in each given plane parallel to the anteroposterior plane by a curve generally constituting a succession of arcs of a circle, this outer curve corresponding to the set of the outermost points of the prosthesis in the given plane. In this outer surface, in the trochlea part, a trochlear path is formed which forms a groove, which extends between two medial and lateral ridges, and the depth of the groove is defined at a given point of the trochlear path by the variation in height, in cross section at the given point, between the height of the highest of the medial and lateral ridges and the bottom of the throat. In particular, this difference in height is measured along the straight line which is perpendicular to the tangent to the path at the given point and which is parallel to the anteroposterior plane.

According to the invention, the femoral portion of a knee prosthesis, intended to be attached to the distal end of a femur, comprising one, preferably two condyles, and a trochlear portion in the outer surface of which is defined a trochlear path that forms a groove extending to crest lines, medial and lateral, respectively, the trochlear path extending from the anterior end, or vertex of the trochlear portion, from the femoral portion to beginning of the condyle (s), two lateral and medial margins being defined between the two lateral and medial edges respectively of the trochlear portion and the two respectively medial and lateral ridges, is characterized in that the lateral bank is refined with respect to the bank medial from the top of the trochlear part to a point in the trochleean path corresponding to the position of the patella for a flexion between 60 ° and 90 °, notammen t 70 °.

In a preferred embodiment, the lateral ridge is further away from the lateral edge than is the medial ridge of the medial edge.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, in mediolateral transverse section, the lateral bank has a rectilinear section extending from the lateral crest to the lateral edge, in particular substantially to the lateral edge. By way of example, a preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a side view (on the lateral side) of a femoral part according to the invention; and FIG. 2 is a sectional view along the line A-A of the femoral part of FIG. 1.

In the figures is shown an embodiment of a femoral part 1 according to the invention. It comprises two condyles 2 (only one appears in Figure 1 which is a side view). The two condyles 2 are separated by an inter-condyle space and from the end of the inter-condyle space, a trochlear portion 3 extends to a vertex end 4 of the femoral part, or anterior edge .

The inner surface of the femoral portion defines a cage having facets 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 substantially planar, two studs 10 (only one appears in Figure 1 which is a side view) protruding from the central facet 7 to ensure anchorage to the femur. Between the anterior edge 4 and the posterior edge 12, it is possible to define a flexion of between 0 and 120 °.

In the outer surface of the trochlear portion 3 is defined a concave groove trochlea path 20 which extends between two respectively lateral 21 and medial 22 crests. Two lateral and medial lateral banks 24, 25 respectively extend between crests 21, 22 lateral and medial and the edges 26, 27 of the lateral and medial end of the trochlea portion.

Between the two ridges, the trochlear path is defined by a concave curved surface, in particular an arc which has a deepest point 28 at the bottom of the path, which is preferably halfway between the two ridges.

Compared to the prior art, the lateral crest 21 is shifted towards the medial edge. Thus, material has been cut so that the lateral bank 24 has the shape of a chamfer 30 which is seen in cross-section along the section AA of FIG. 2. Thus, the side crest 21 of the lateral bank is more distant from the lateral edge than is the medial ridge of the medial edge. In particular, the side bank is formed from the point of the crest of a substantially planar chamfer in cross section, terminated by a curve 40 arcuate followed by a rectilinear section 41 to the side edge. Thus, the angle formed between the rectilinear section 41 coming from the lateral edge and the straight line passing through the lateral crest point and the point from which the section 41 ceases to be rectilinear, is greater than the same angle defined for the medial bank. , ie the angle between the rectilinear medial section 42 from the medial edge and the straight line passing through the medial ridge and the point from which the section 42 ceases to be rectilinear.

The chamfer is made on the trochlea portion between the front edge 4 to a plane corresponding to an angle α of about 70 °, but which may have a value of up to 90 ° in particular.

Claims (6)
