DEVICE FOR FIXING THE CHAIN

WITHOUT ATTACHES ON VIOLA AND VIOLIN

The present invention relates to a fastening device for the chin rest (1) without attachments (2) on stringed instruments, such as the violin (V) and the violin.

Figure 1 illulstre a chin (1) classic. The fasteners (2) of the chinrest (1) are conventional metal and are mounted on either side of the tailpiece fastener button. The top of the clip (2) is fixed on the lateral outer side of the chin guard (1). The bottom of the clip (2) meanwhile, is fixed on the edge of the bottom of the violin (V). The invention relates to a chinrest for violin, having a receiving surface of the chin of a musician and a lower notch allowing a tailpiece to pass.

The chin strap is characterized in that it is equipped with at least one passage for a screw collaborating directly with a mounting hole provided in the violin, which eliminates metal fasteners generally used to secure a chin strap to a violin.

The passage for the screw has a countersink to house the screw head.

The passage for the screw is plugged after fixing the chin guard with a trunnion to provide a flush top surface.

The journal is equipped with at least one extraction channel to allow its extraction and disassembly of the chin guard.

The chin guard has two screw passages in order to avoid any rotation of the chinrest with respect to the violin. The invention also relates to a violin equipped with such a chin strap.

The violin has at least one mounting hole provided in its nut and allowing the attachment of said chin guard.

The nut is widened compared to the current sillets so that the fixing hole does not impinge on the soundboard, the width of the nut being about 13mm

The fixing hole encroaches on the lower cleat of the violin.

The fixing hole is equipped with an insertable nut glued on the inside.

The violin has two mounting holes to prevent rotation of the chin strap on the soundboard.

Such a chin guard is without metal fasteners and is attached directly to the lower cleat by means of two metal, carbon fiber or nylon screws, 4 mm in diameter. The invention will be better understood from the view of the appended figures:

The lower nut (5) (Fig. 3) (fixed on the lower batten (7)), which usually has a width (L1) of 6 mm (Fig 4a) and 35 mm of length, is widened to a width (L2) 13 mm (Fig. 4b) to avoid piercing the soundboard. The nut (5) is drilled from one end to the other and the cleat is extended to a depth of at least 15 mm below the soundboard (Fig. 5).

This allows to slide on each side an insertable nut (9) of 4 mm that is glued. (Fig. 5).

Thanks to this nut of 15 mm long brass, carbon or nylon, one can fix the chinrest (1) on the soundboard (3) of the instrument.

On a chin (1) classic notch (6) where the tailpiece passes is about 30 mm, but on the chinrest (1) without attachment (2) it is reduced to 10mm to provide the piercing of the chin. The notch being smaller, a finer tailpiece and specially designed for this purpose has already been created for an ideal adaptation.

The base of the chin guard (1) is pierced on each side of the notch (6) to receive the screw (10). A hole 4 mm in diameter will be drilled by providing a countersink (11) 6 mm in diameter to a depth of 8 mm in order to receive the end of the screw (10).

In order to close the hole of the countersink (11) and thus to offer a finished and neat work, one introduces 2 pins (12) of 6 mm. These pins (12) can easily be expelled, if necessary, with two opposite vertical channels 1 mm in diameter.

This chinrest (1) without attachment (2) has the following advantages: • The instrument is lightened, which promotes the sound and comfort • removal of the damage caused by the metal fasteners (2) • removal of the discomfort of the musician due rubbing his cheek to the metal clip (2)

The base of the chin guard (1) is pierced on each side of the notch (6) to receive the screw (10). A hole 4 mm in diameter will be drilled by providing a countersink (11) 6 mm in diameter to a depth of 8 mm in order to receive the end of the screw (10). The illustrated example comprises two screws and fasteners and the dimensions mentioned above are indicative. Indeed many variations and modifications of detail may be made to the present embodiment of the invention by the skilled person without departing from the scope of the present invention. The invention can be used in the context of musical instruments provided with a chinrest.
