Description
The invention relates to sleeves for the protection of electrical cables in motor vehicles. A vehicle usually comprises fixed parts, in particular a box, and moving parts, for example an opening such as a tailgate or a door. A vehicle 5 also includes cables or bundles of electrical cables extending into the fixed and movable parts. As long as a cable is located inside a fixed or mobile part, it is protected from bad weather and dust because it is positioned between two walls delimiting this part. However, a portion of cable extending between fixed and movable parts of the vehicle, hinged together, is in the open air at least in certain positions of the moving part with respect to the fixed part. Therefore, to protect this part of the cable, mainly weather and dust, it is known to house this portion of cable in a flexible corrugated sheath of plastic or rubber. During the use of the vehicle, the moving part is frequently moved relative to the fixed part. For example, a tailgate is usually moved between two extreme positions of opening and closing a rear bay of the vehicle. Thus, a protective sheath of a cable extending between the tailgate and a fixed part of the vehicle is deformed between two configurations corresponding to the closed and open positions of the tailgate. As the electric functionalities of the vehicles multiply, a sheath must be able to accommodate a harness of cables increasingly heavy and bulky. However, the more a beam is heavy and bulky, the more it deforms the flexible sheath when it moves from one configuration to another. Thus, the sleeve may deform in undesired configurations and come into contact with the body. The paintwork of the bodywork may then be removed by the friction and vibration of the sleeve, making part of the body vulnerable to corrosion. In addition, in the case of deformation of the sleeve too large, the latter can come into contact with the hinges connecting a fixed part and a moving part and thus be damaged. The object of the invention is therefore to provide a sleeve whose deformations between different configurations can be controlled and made relatively independent of the movements and deformations of the cable or cable bundle contained in this sleeve. To this end, a sleeve is provided according to the invention for containing an elongated member such as a cable or bundle of cables, the sleeve being deformable between first and second configurations, the sleeve comprising at least two annular elements intended to to surround the elongate member, the two annular members being interconnected by at least one elongate connecting member, the connecting member being distinct from the annular members, the sleeve deforming between the first and second configurations by torsion and bending each connecting element connecting the annular elements. Thus, when the sheath is deformed between first and second configurations corresponding to first and second extreme relative positions of parts between which this sheath extends, the sheath shape changes are imposed, on the one hand, by the characteristics of torsion and bending of each connecting element and, secondly, by the relative position of each connecting element relative to the annular elements.
Since the sleeve deforms by twisting and bending each connecting element, the annular elements can be relatively rigid so that they are not likely to be deformed by the displacements and deformations of the bundle of cables extending into the sheath. Thus, even if the sheath accommodates a heavy and bulky bundle of cables, it keeps a predetermined shape in each configuration, its kinematics during the passage from one configuration to the other being also relatively well predetermined. Those skilled in the art will thus be able to choose annular elements whose rigidity will be adapted to withstand the forces of displacement and deformation of the cable or bundle of cables contained in the sheath when this sheath passes from one configuration to another, without limiting the capacity of deformation of the sheath between its two configurations. Preferably, the sheath comprises at least three axially successive annular elements, two successive annular elements being connected to each other by an elongate connecting element so that the successive connecting elements each extend in the extension of one another , so as to form between them one and the same main slender element connecting all the annular elements. The sheath is thus easy to manufacture. Also preferably, the main elongated member has a generally helical shape. This is a simple general form which makes it possible to predict with a good precision the shape of the sheath in the two configurations. Advantageously, the annular element has a generally circular shape. This form is compatible with various forms of cable. According to one embodiment, at least one annular element has an open contour. Such an annular element withstands the mechanical stresses it undergoes. Preferably, the sheath comprises a protective sheath surrounding the annular elements. These are thus effectively protected from dust and weather. Advantageously, the annular elements and each connecting element which connects them are formed by one and the same piece. The sheath is thus simpler to manufacture. According to one embodiment, the annular elements are formed by the turns of a spring.
Thus, the sheath is easy to install. Advantageously, the attachment means of a first end are intended to be connected to a fixed part of a motor vehicle, for example a vehicle body, and the attachment means of a second end are intended to be connected to a moving part of the vehicle, for example an opening of this vehicle. We will now describe, by way of non-limiting example, an embodiment of the invention with the aid of a single figure showing a perspective view of a sleeve according to the invention before it is mounted on a motor vehicle . There is shown in the single figure a sleeve 10 according to the invention. This sleeve is intended to accommodate an electric cable or a bundle of electrical cables, not shown here. The sleeve 10 is intended to be hooked, for example, between a vehicle body and a tailgate of this vehicle. Nevertheless, the invention is not limited by the objects to which the sleeve 10 is intended to be hung. The sheath 10 has a generally elongated shape along its main axis (XX ') and comprises at each of its two ends, in a manner known per se, latching attachment means to a portion of the vehicle forming a fixed or movable support , namely the body or the tailgate. These attachment means comprise a connecting ring 12 comprising four latching tabs 14 regularly arranged around the ring 12 and a flange 15 forming a positioning stop on the body or the tailgate. The attachment means of the sheath 10 are adapted to snap into additional fastening means of the body and the tailgate of the vehicle. Between the two rings 12, the sleeve 10 comprises a plurality of relatively rigid rings 16 distributed along the axis (XX '). Each ring 16 has a closed contour and has a generally circular shape. The rings 16 extend successively along the axis (XX ') being, before mounting the sleeve 10 on the vehicle, substantially parallel to each other and coaxial. Among the rings 16, two particular rings 16a 35 and 16b are each secured to an inner face of a corresponding ring 12. Each ring 16 is intended to surround the cable which extends in the sheath 10 so as to guide it along one end to the other of the sheath 10. According to a first variant of the present embodiment, the ring 16 has on its inner contour, protrusions for housing one or more electric cables. According to a second variant, each ring 16 is a coil of a helical spring. According to a third variant, the ring 16 has an opening on its contour in order to better withstand the mechanical stresses it is required to undergo. In general, the outline of the rings is not limiting with respect to the invention. They can thus be replaced by annular elements of various shapes for example of oval or square contour. From one end to the other of the sheath 10, a main elongated element 18 extends, being secured to the rings 16, from the ring 16a to the ring 16b. Thus, all the rings 16, 16a and 16b are interconnected. As the rings 16a and 16b are each attached to a respective ring 12, the rings 12 are also connected to the assembly formed by the rings 16 and the elongate member 18. Each segment 20 of the elongate member 18 connecting two rings 16 constrained, by twisting and bending, the relative movement of the two rings 16 relative to each other. Thus, two successive rings 16 are interconnected by an elongated connecting segment 20 so that the successive connecting elements 20 extend each in the extension of one another, so as to form between them one and same main slender element 18 connecting all the rings 16.
Here, the rings 16, 16a, 16b and the elongate member 18 form a single piece of plastic. According to a variant of this embodiment, the rings 16, 16a, 16b and the elongated element 18 may be formed of a single piece of metal. According to another variant, several elongate elements may successively connect the rings 16 in pairs. The elements connecting the rings 16 two by two may be offset with each other by a predefined pitch. The sheath 10 comprises a protective sheath 22 surrounding the rings 16 and the elongated element 18. This sheath 22, here elastomer but which can be made from technical textile or other material, has a generally tubular shape. The sheath 22 is tight and flexible and protects in particular the cable bundle threaded into the sheath 10 of the weather and dust. It extends along the axis (XX ') between two faces 24 of the two rings 12. Each face 24 of a ring 12 is opposite the other face 24 of another ring 12 when the sleeve extends along the axis (XX '). The sheath 22 is, if necessary, fixed to each ring 16. The sheath is here mounted by overmolding on the rings 16. According to one variant, the sheath is made from a heat-shrinkable material, for example polyolefin or teflon. During the use of the vehicle, the sleeve 10 is caused to deform between two configurations, namely a first configuration when the fixed part of the vehicle, for example the tailgate is in the closed position and a second configuration when this part is in open position. To pass from one configuration to another, the sleeve 10 is deformed thanks to the possible twists and flexures of each segment 20. The rings 16, relatively rigid, practically do not deform and force the position of the cable or cable bundle in the sheath 10.
Of course, we can make many changes to the invention without departing from the scope thereof. The number of annular elements is not limiting with respect to the invention. The sleeve may in particular have fewer rings or annular elements than those shown in the single figure. In particular the sleeve may comprise only three rings, or only two.
