Ce coussin d'air se gonfle plus ou moins, au besoin personnel de chacun, en fonction de l'espace à occuper, afin de combler le volume inexploité du bagage et permettre par conséquent que l'intégralité du contenu de celui-ci soit parfaitement comblé à 100 %, sans pour autant accroître son poids (élément pénalisant suivant certaines compagnies aériennes). De plus, ce coussin d'air, lorsqu'il n'est pas utilisé, peut servir de poche de rangement, accessible sur une face, et permettant d'isoler certains articles du reste du bagage (chaussures, vêtements propres, sales, objets fragiles ...).
