Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the technical field of composting bins of organic materials. More specifically, the invention relates to a vermicomposter. A vermicomposter is a tank that houses earthworms or earthworms that consume the organic household waste deposited in the tank in order to transform them into compost, also known as vermicompost, and into a fertilizing liquid called lombrithé. A vermicomposter reduces waste mass per year and per capita and is an alternative to composting in urban areas. We already know individual solutions of composting worm compostors that use earthworms to transform organic materials into a vermicomposter. Such vermicomposter are generally placed in the apartments of their users, which is not without drawbacks. Indeed, the vermicomposteur occupies a relatively large space in the apartment, and also poses problems of smell and gnats. Moreover, it can be said that the vermicomposteur conveys a repulsive image, which hinders many potential users to use it, notably because of the presence of the worms that it houses. Among the known earthworm composting solutions, vermicomposters are known which comprise different superposed removable stages, each stage corresponding to a level of transformation of the organic matter into vermicompost. Thus, the top floor receives the fresh organic waste, and the further down the lower floors, the more the compost is in a state of advanced degradation. The user must therefore, from time to time, lower all the floors of a level and replace the bottom floor instead of the top floor, after recovering the compost.
However, one of the difficulties posed by these different stages is that the worms end up in the bottom floor without the possibility of going back upstairs. The user is then forced to manually retrieve the worms from the bottom floor to distribute them in the upper floors, or, if he resigns, to buy new worms to place them in the top floor.
The object of the invention is to propose a vermicomposter facilitating the return of worms to the upper floors of the vermicomposter. For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a vermicomposter comprising a vat, an opening for introducing organic waste, a higher level of waste reception and at least a lower vermicompost reception level, characterized in that it comprises an inclined plane connecting the lower level to the upper level and forming with the horizontal an angle of between 30 ° and 75 °, preferably between 40 ° and 55 °.
Such a vermicomposter allows the worms to go up on the upper level of reception of organic waste by means of the inclined plane. A vermicomposter according to the invention may further comprise one or more of the following optional features: the inclined plane is formed by a grid or a perforated sheet which connects the lower level with the upper level. Thus, the worms can go up more easily on the upper floors; - The upper level of reception of organic waste has a substantially horizontal perforated wall for the passage of vermicompost. Thus, the vermicompost can be easily introduced through the perforations of the perforated sheet to the lower level; - The substantially horizontal perforated wall comprises a drain of the vermicompost, the bung being provided with holes 10 mm in diameter. Thus, a user can drop the vermicompost more quickly to the lower level; - the volume of the vermicomposter is at least 300 liters. Thus, such a vermicomposter has a volume adapted to be located in the common parts of a building or a home of several homes; the vermicomposter comprises a receptacle adapted to receive cardboard. Thus, a user can easily take cardboard and dispose of it with fresh organic waste; the vermicomposter comprises ventilation grids. Thus, fresh air enters the vermicomposter and promotes the decomposition of waste by the worms; - The vermicomposteur has a liquid drain and a valve for collecting the liquid. Thus, the fertilizing liquid from the vermicompost can be easily recovered; the vermicomposter has a worm trap. Thus, the worms ascend easily to the upper level by means of the inclined plane; - the vermicomposteur has wheels. Thus, the vermicomposter can be easily moved. - The vermicomposteur comprises a cover provided with support pads adapted to cooperate with the collar of the vermicomposter. The invention will be better understood with the aid of the single appended figure, which is provided by way of example and is not limiting in nature. This figure is a perspective sectional view of a vermicomposter according to the invention. Referring to the figure, a vermicomposter 10 has an external appearance that looks singularly like that of a large volume container for household waste. The vermicomposter comprises a vat 12, an introduction opening 13 of fresh organic waste 14, a lid 15 of conventional type 16, and four wheels 18 located under the vat 12.
The tank 12 has four faces 19, including a front face 19A, a rear face, two side faces interconnected and forming a substantially parallelepipedal volume, and a peripheral flange 20 for gripping the vermicomposter. The lid of the vermicomposter comprises two support pads 21 of elastomer which are adapted to cooperate with the peripheral collar 20 to leave a space between the lid 15 and the tank 12 when the lid is closed. This space allows an air circulation in the tank promoting a faster decomposition of fresh organic waste 14. Inside the tank 12, there is a higher level 22 for receiving fresh organic waste 14 and at least a lower level 24 receiving vermicompost. A perforated plate 26 (or grid) located in the lower level 24 forms an inclined plane 28 which connects the lower level 24 with the upper level 22 extending from the bottom of the tank 12 to the upper level 22. In the As described, the plate 26 forming the inclined plane 28 also comprises a substantially horizontal portion 29 which extends to the bottom of the tank near the front face 19A of the tank. The inclined plane 28 forms an angle A with a horizontal plane, this angle being between 30 ° and 75 °. The bottom of the lower level 24 is delimited by the perforated sheet 26 of stainless steel which is located at the bottom of the tank. This perforated plate 26 has a thickness of 2 mm and has perforations 1 mm in diameter or less, which are able to pass a liquid that is derived from vermicompost, but neither worms nor compost. Indeed, the liquid (lombrithé) generated by the vermicompost can be recovered for use as fertilizer. This liquid is discharged by means of a conventional garden hose type discharge pipe to a valve R which is provided for collecting the liquid. The upper level 22 for receiving fresh organic waste 14 comprises a substantially horizontal perforated partition wall 30 adapted for the passage of vermicompost. The perforated partition wall has a thickness of 2 mm and has perforations which have a diameter of about 6 mm. The perforated partition wall is positioned on holding brackets which are rigidly attached to the side walls of the vessel. This separation wall is made of stainless steel and comprises transverse reinforcement bars which are able to support the wall when it is covered with a large quantity of fresh waste 14. A drain 32 of the vermicompost of circular shape is located generally in the middle of the partition wall 30. The drain plug 32 comprises perforations 10 mm in diameter and also comprises a removable glass plug 33. This plug 33 is connected to the tank by a chain 34 of stainless steel. Also in the upper level 22, under the cover 15, there is an insulating strip 35 made of aluminum foil and conventional bubble paper which is attached to the cover 15 by holding rods. The insulating strip 34 is adapted to maintain a relatively stable temperature on the fresh organic waste 14 when the lid 15 is closed. The tank 12 comprises two ventilation grids 36 of circular shape on each of its lateral faces 19. These comprise perforations adapted to promote air circulation inside the vermicomposter. The tank further comprises on its front face 19A an escape hatch 38 of the vermicompost. The vermicomposter comprises a receptacle (not shown) adapted to receive cardboard and hooked by hooks to the tank 12. This carton is adapted to be mixed with the fresh organic waste 14 in order to promote their transformation into vermicompost worms. The operation of a vermicomposter as described in the example will now be described. In a first step, fresh organic waste 14 is deposited in the upper level 22 for receiving fresh organic waste 14 with worms. The user then takes pieces of cardboard into the receptacle and adds them to the fresh organic waste 14 to promote the consumption of waste by worms. The worms that are present in the upper level eat the waste and produce vermicompost. The vermicompost thus obtained drops into the lower level 24 of the vat by passing through the perforated partition wall.
This has the effect, thanks to the drain 32 , to drop the vermicompost more quickly to the lower level 24 and to free up space in the upper level 22.
After a sufficient composting time, the escape hatch 38 is opened to evacuate the vermicompost which has dropped into the lower level 24. Before a vermicompost harvest, one or more bait-worm traps 40 on which one has placed a bait are deposited on the fresh waste 14 in order to limit the involuntary catch of worms during the collection of vermicompost. The traps 40 are small trays of rectangular shape having orifices able to let the worms through their partition wall. Thus, the worms that have descended into the lower level 24 are attracted by the traps 40 and go up via the inclined plane to the upper level. Regarding the liquid from the vermicompost (lombrithé), it passes through the perforated plate 26 in the bottom of the tank. The liquid is thus stored in a lower tank 46. It can be collected by means of the valve R positioned at the bottom of the tank 12, to the right of the front panel 19A. A vermicomposter as described in the example has a volume of 400 liters. However, it is possible to make vermicomposters with a capacity of between 300L and 660L. A vermicomposter of 660L makes it possible to transform organic waste from 10 to 30 households. Such a vermicomposter comprises two draining outlets 32 of the vermicompost on the perforated wall 30. The invention is not limited to the embodiments shown and other embodiments will become apparent to those skilled in the art.
