Abstract

The panel (1) has a core (2) containing molded rigid foam. A cross-piece (3) is molded by rigidification of the core, and is embedded in the core. The cross-piece is extended between two opposite sides (4, 5) of the panel, and is made of cellulose fibers, porous foam and cardboard. A cross section of the cross-piece has maximum dimension lower than 20 mm. The cross-piece is presented in a form of a circular section tube, a band folded to form a triangular section, or a corrugated cardboard band. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a panel.

Description

The invention relates to a motor vehicle trim panel and a method for producing such a panel.

It is known to produce a motor vehicle trim panel - for example a luggage cover tablet or a false floor -, said panel comprising a rigid foam core - in particular molded polyurethane -, said panel further comprising minus a stiffening metal cross member overmolded by said core and embedded therein, said cross member extending substantially between two opposite edges of said panel.

The crossmember is overmolded by the foam and provides the soul with increased flexural strength.

However, the use of such a metal cross is expensive and leads to overweight, the cross having a much higher density than the foam.

The invention aims to overcome these disadvantages.

For this purpose, and according to a first aspect, the invention proposes a motor vehicle trim panel, said panel comprising a molded rigid foam core, said panel further comprising at least one stiffening cross-member overmolded by said core and embedded therein, said cross-member extending substantially between two opposite edges of said panel, said cross-member being based on cellulose fiber

By a cross member is meant an elongated element of cross-section - that is to say perpendicular to its length - whose largest dimension is much smaller than the length of said cross-member, for example of the order of one or more factors. 10. 2 The fact that the cross is overmolded by the soul is manifested by an adhesion of the foam of the soul to the cross.

The use of a fiber-based material cross-member makes it possible to achieve a consequent lightening of the panel and also an economic gain.

Despite the fact that such a material - having a much lower flexural strength than a metal - is employed, appreciable reinforcement of the flexural strength of the panel is achieved. This is explained by the overmolding of the crossbar which creates a "composite effect", similar to a plastic material reinforced by fibers.

In addition, in the case of a material based on cellulose fiber which is permeable at least partially to the foam, said foam penetrates said material by creating a crust with a density much higher than that of the foam, and therefore of improved flexion, said module being further enhanced by the "composite effect" achieved by coating the fibers of said material with said crust.

According to a second aspect, the invention proposes a method of producing such a panel.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the description which follows, made with reference to the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 is a general schematic perspective view of a panel according to one embodiment, FIG. is a partial schematic sectional view of a panel according to one embodiment, - Figure 3 is a partial schematic sectional view of a panel 30 according to another embodiment.

Referring to the figures, a motor vehicle lining panel 1 - for example a luggage covering tablet or a false floor - is described, said panel comprising a core 2 based on rigid foam - in particular molded polyurethane - said panel further comprising at least one stiffening cross-member 3 overmolded by said core and embedded therein, said cross-member extending substantially between two opposite edges 4,5 of said panel, said cross-member being based on cellulose fiber.

According to one embodiment, the cross section - that is to say perpendicular to the length of the crossbar 3 - of the crosspiece 3 has a maximum dimension of less than 30 mm, and in particular less than 20 mm.

According to one embodiment, the cross member 3 is based on cardboard.

In particular, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the cross member 3 is in the form of a profile, that is to say that it has a uniform section.

According to the embodiment of Figure 2, the cross member 3 is in the form of a circular section of the tube diameter in particular between 10 and 20 mm.

According to the embodiment of Figure 3, the cross member 3 is in the form of a strip 20 folded so as to have a triangular section.

In a variant which is not shown, the cross member 3 - not having the shape of a profile - is in the form of a corrugated cardboard strip, such a carton having a structure in the form of two flat sheets separated by a corrugated sheet spacer which is associated with them.

According to one embodiment, the material of the crosspiece 3 is porous to the foam, said foam at least partially impregnating said material in its thickness. In this case and as explained above, the foam penetrates the material of the cross member 3 by creating a crust density much higher than that of the foam, thus improved flexural modulus, said module being further enhanced by "the composite effect "made by coating the fibers of said material with said crust.

Such a cross member 3, not necessarily rigid before its overmolding by the foam of the core 2, becomes it by impregnation of said foam in its thickness.

Of course, the use of a cross member 3 as described in the various previous embodiments does not exclude the use of sleepers of another nature o, for example metal.

In addition, it may be provided to have more than one cross member 3 based on cellulose fiber in the core 2.

A process for producing a panel 1 comprising the following steps is now described: - placing in a mold a stiffening cross-member 3 made of cellulose fiber, - injecting into said mold a precursor mixture of rigid foam, 20 - carry out the expansion of the foam in the molding cavity defined by the mold, so as to overmold said cross and walnut in the foam, - demolding the panel 1 obtained.

The method may further comprise the step of coating at least a portion of the molding cavity with a coating sheet to obtain a panel 1 provided with a foam overmolded coating.
