The present invention relates to a drill for drilling stone, concrete, granite, marble, ceramics, earthenware, glass (field of stone), metals and also wood using a drill ordinary, even wireless, or even with a screwdriver, and without using percussion. The generally used drills are provided at their ends with a pellet of hard material, usually tungsten carbide, whose shape is shown in Figure 1. The rotational forces are transmitted to this pellet by the body of the drill. Active edges in their rotation describe a surface that does not cover the entire section of the hole to be drilled. It remains a central circular section, traversed only by the very obtuse edge of the top of the pellet, edge that generates virtually no abrasion.
This form of the pellet has two major drawbacks: - The centering of the hole on a smooth surface (tiles for example) is random, ^ the drilling efficiency is far from optimal because the drill abuts on the bottom of the hole which given the still intact structure of the surrounding materials has a significant mechanical strength.
This also explains why it is much easier to enlarge a hole when a pre-hole, even of much smaller diameter, has been practiced. But the problem remains to complete this pre-hole. To succeed in drilling hard materials such as stone or concrete, professionals usually use noisy drills, percussion, high power. This method of drilling weakens the pierced material, and even conical holes can be obtained. The problem of centering could be solved by adding a tip to the top of the pellet in the axis of the drill. But this does not bring any improvement for the drilling efficiency. In the field of metal drilling, the problem of efficiency has been solved by the realization of a central groove made as shown in Figure 2. This was defined in US Patent 4,373,839 publication of February 15, 1983. As indicated in US Pat. No. 4,984,944 of January 15, 1991, the application of the same principle to the field of the stone is relevant, but there remains the problem of centering on vitrified materials such as ceramics, glass, earthenware or ceramics. polished materials such as marble or granite, unless a drill press is used, if not at startup the rotating drill jumps from one point to another (the realization of the throat shows a point on each fish bone). It should be noted, however, that the efficiency of drills with central groove decreases rather quickly because of the premature wear of the edges, where they work the most, ie on their outer edge. Polishing occurs in the zone of the edges with the fine powder resulting from the drilling itself. This is called peripheral tailgating. The object of the invention is to define a new form of drill, provided or not with a pellet of hard material, to overcome the previous problems and allow to drill a wide range of materials with the same drill using a simple screwdriver.
The invention is based on two essential elements: the presence of an eccentric centering point, the presence of abrasive teeth which work staggered. The centering point (1) is made according to Figure 3.
Drilling uses two modes of drill rotation. At first, in the priming phase of the hole, the drill rotates around an axis passing through the tip of the drill. During its progression it refocuses gradually, because of the general shape of its end, to turn around its main axis. During the remainder of the drilling, it turns then guided by the lateral edges. As a result, during most of the drilling, the tip itself circles around the main axis and participates in drilling, whereas if it were centered on the axis, at the point of zero velocity, it would abut bottom of a mechanically very strong hole. A very small decentering is enough, the important thing is that it exists. The shape of this point is studied so that its abrasive function is as effective as possible; it has a small positive draft ridge, like the edges of conventional drills 15 intended to work without percussion. The abrasive teeth (2) arranged in staggered rows, see Figure 3, are provided to improve drilling efficiency. In a classic forest, the working area is limited to only ridges and their role is to remove a thin layer of material at each turn and turn it into a fine powder. This causes premature heating and premature wear of the ridges from which heeling. What interests us in a borehole is to extract the maximum of material, even in a coarse state, with the minimum of energy. The materials to be pierced have a granular and irregular structure. Under these conditions it is better to work with staggered teeth, because several advantages are combined: ^ The pressure exerted parallel to the axis of the drill refers to the teeth instead of being distributed over the entire width of the drill, where higher local pressure and greater penetration. - The passage of a row of teeth leaves furrows whose peaks are attacked by the next row, and the penetration into the fillet vertices is easier than in a smooth surface due to less lateral structural strength. The coarse material torn off will then be crushed, but in areas that do not cause wear of the teeth, namely between the teeth or between the vertical edge of the hole and the drill. In addition to the ability to pierce the hardest and / or most fragile materials without percussion with a simple screwdriver, the above provisions offer the following advantages: reduced energy consumption, reduction or even absence of heating, 25 the significant increase in the life of the drill, a drilling speed more than doubled, great simplicity of implementation, a sharpening possible with a method as simple as a conventional drill.
The figures presented are as follows: FIG. 1: Pastille reported on a conventional drill with representation of the central talon surface at its end, FIG. 2: Drill tip with central groove (US Pat. No. 4,984,944 of January 15, 1991), Figure 3: Drill tip of the description and according to the preferred industrial embodiment. The forest object of this document can be realized in a process very close to that of the currently marketed drill. Drills generally marketed for drilling concrete and stone usually consist of a body with helical discharge grooves, and a pellet of hard material, such as tungsten carbide, soldered to its core. end. The pellet itself is made by a simple and automated molding process of the powdered constituent materials, followed by high temperature sintering. The molding itself is made inside a matrix between two punches.
The matrix lumen is parallelepipedal and the section of the punches is rectangular. The powder is compressed in the matrix between the two punches. The shape to be given to the side of the pellet which will be used as end of the drill, is given by the end of one of the punches, end which presents in negative the required form. As a result the production process remains the same, only the shape of the end of the punch is new. This form is easily achievable by CNC machining. The drill according to the invention can become a universal tool for drilling construction materials given its life and ease of implementation. It will be widely used in particular in the field of building, marble and DIY.
