Abstract

Preparing modified metal oxide nanoparticles dispersible in organic medium, comprises reacting an aqueous composition of boehmite nanoparticles with a functionalizing agent of anionic surfactant type (I) to form modified metal oxide nanoparticles; and recovering modified metal oxide nanoparticles. Preparing modified metal oxide nanoparticles dispersible in organic medium, comprises reacting an aqueous composition of boehmite nanoparticles with a functionalizing agent of anionic surfactant type of formula (R-OOC-CH(SO 3M)-CH-COO-R2) (I) to form modified metal oxide nanoparticles; and recovering modified metal oxide nanoparticles. R1, R2 : an organic residue or H, where R1 and R2 are not simultaneously H; and M : a monovalent cation. An independent claim is included for preparing a composition of modified metal oxide nanoparticles dispersed in an organic medium, comprising incorporating the modified metal oxide nanoparticles in an organic solvent.
