Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of surface treatment processes for plastic parts intended for the perfumery / cosmetic, parapharmacy and other sectors. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION These methods are intended to give these parts a metallic appearance and allow them to verify a number of characteristics of resistance and resistance to shocks and various assaults such as corrosion, oxidation, etc. In this field, the vacuum metallization technique (MSV) is known, according to which a varnish is sprayed under vacuum on the plastic parts in order to give them the desired metal-type finish. A disadvantage of this technique is that it can give rise to an appearance of "orange peel" type on the pieces. The electroplating technique has the advantage of generally giving a better appearance and a touch of cold type. Electroplating is based on electrolysis and allows the application of a metal deposit on a plastic part by means of a continuous electric current, the metal being initially in the form of cations in solution in an electrolyte. For example it is possible by electroplating to cover plastic parts with precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum etc.
However, this technique, because of the high cost of precious metals, for example gold, imposes significant constraints on manufacturing to reduce losses and limit production costs. In addition, the colors of the metallized parts obtained are limited to the colors of the metals used during electroplating.
The present invention proposes a method of surface treatment of a plastic part, comprising the following steps: depositing on the plastic part a layer of metal; - application of lacquer by cataphoresis. Cataphoresis is a painting technique that consists of immersing the workpiece in a water-soluble paint bath, putting the workpiece in cathode and migrating the suspended paint particles into the bath by means of a continuous electric current, the anode to the cathode. Then the paint is polymerized in the oven with UV rays. A process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain parts having an external appearance and technical characteristics, such as resistance to scotch tape, cosmetic products, salt spray, etc., which are comparable to standard electroplating. Such a method also makes it possible to obtain parts with an external appearance of the precious metal type, similar to parts treated in electroplating with precious metals, but using less rare and less expensive materials. The industrial process is thus greatly simplified and facilitated. This method also makes it possible to produce metallized plastic parts with a variety of shades (blue, green, yellow, red) much larger than in the case of electroplating, by the use of colored lacquers. This method also has the advantage of being compatible with the implementation of a decor before the surface treatment, by pad printing (using an ink pad). In one embodiment, the method is used to give the part the appearance of a coin covered with precious metal. In one embodiment, the method further comprises, after application of the lacquer, a curing step by polymerization at a temperature below 70 ° C. In one embodiment, the polymerization is carried out using UV. In one embodiment, the method comprises a step of baking at a temperature below 70 ° C prior to the polymerization by desolvation. In one embodiment, the deposition on the plastic part of a metal layer is performed by electroplating. In one embodiment, the metal or metals included in the metal layer comprise so-called common non-precious metals.
In one embodiment, the metal layer comprises one or more common metals among: yellow bronze, white bronze, nickel, copper, tin, chrome. In one embodiment, the method further comprises, prior to the application of the lacquer, a degreasing and depassivation (neutralization) operation to allow better adhesion and non-pollution of the lacquer.
Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the description which follows. This is purely illustrative and should be read in conjunction with the attached figure. In the single figure is shown a flowchart with different steps of a method in one embodiment of the invention. In the description below, a plastic part is considered, for example intended to form a base for a make-up case. In a first phase a) of treatment, the plastic part is covered with a layer of metal by electroplating. In one embodiment, the metal used comprises a metal or a combination of several metals from non-precious metals, for example copper, nickel, white bronze, yellow bronze, chromium, zinc. In a subsequent phase b) of treatment, a deposit of lacquer is performed on the plastic part covered with the metallized layer. In the embodiment considered, the lacquer is deposited and fixed during a cataphoresis operation, comprising baking by UV polymerization. In one embodiment, this cooking is performed at a temperature below 70 degrees Celsius (° C) or in embodiments below 60 or 65 ° C. In one embodiment, it is also carried out before the UV curing and after the lacquer has been deposited a step c) comprising a low-temperature baking at a maximum temperature of less than 70 ° C: this operates a desolvation, allowing to dry the room and evaporate the solvents and the water remaining on the piece.
Such desolvation and / or polymerization steps make it possible not to deform the plastic of the part. The resins deposited on the metal layer of the part in this phase b) are acrylics modified with ethers allowing, thanks to the combination of photoinitiators, a polymerization with UV rays. In one embodiment, between phases a) and b), a degreasing operation is carried out making it possible to improve the preparation of the surface state for fastening the lacquer to the metal support, followed by one or more rinsing operations, followed by a depassivation operation to neutralize the alkalinity before immersion in the lacquer. These operations are followed by rinsing with demineralized water of less than 1 μS, so as not to pollute the lacquer. At the end of the cataphoresis lacquering operation, several rinsing operations and a wetting operation are carried out, which homogenizes a film of water on the part and eliminates the remaining traces of water.
E The part obtained following the implementation of a method according to the invention is satisfactorily resistant to scratches, sweat, salt spray, scotch etc. The hardness of the piece obtained is comparable to that of a piece obtained by standard electroplating with a precious metal. In one embodiment, the metal deposited in step a) is a mixture of copper and yellow bronze, which gives the piece resulting from the process a hue and appearance very similar to yellow gold. The lacquer used in step b) is, in embodiments, transparent. In other embodiments, the method makes it possible to produce pieces with various shades (blue, red, green, yellow, etc.) using colored lacquers. E
