1 The invention relates to the opening of a flap mounted on a dashboard of a motor vehicle, said flap being pivotable relative thereto to open to allow the deployment of a cushion of 5 inflatable safety through this dashboard. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In such an arrangement, the dashboard, which is located in the passenger compartment below the windshield, comprises a board body having a rear face opposite to which is mounted a cushion module. This module comprises an enclosure enclosing the cushion and its inflation means, and is mounted at a corresponding opening that includes the body of the dashboard. The opening which is generally rectangular is closed by the flap it carries, an edge of this flap being hinged at an upper transverse edge of the opening. The front face of the board body and the flap define a continuous surface which is covered with a coating typically comprising a foam and a skin, rendering the flap almost invisible. When an impact is detected, the cushion inflates automatically, so that it exerts pressure on the inner face of the flap, causing it to open against the locally torn coating. This allows the cushion to deploy through the dashboard, to the cockpit, so that it interposes between a vehicle occupant and the dashboard. The opening of the flap and the complete inflation of the cushion take place in a time which must be sufficiently short to protect the occupant of the vehicle by preventing his head from striking the dashboard or the windshield under the effect of the impact. . Inflation of the cushion thus causes an opening of the flap which is itself very fast, so that the free edge of this flap is in fact stopped in its opening movement by the windshield that it usually comes crashing.
In practice, it happens that the impact of the shutter against the windshield breaks the windshield, which is obviously not desirable given the pieces of glass that can attack the occupant of the vehicle, and the cost of repairs that is increased by replacing the windshield. In order to avoid the destruction of the windshield, it has been envisaged to close the opening of the dashboard body with two rectangular flaps, one opening upwards and the other down.
The upward opening flap then has smaller dimensions, so that it is stopped in its opening movement by the dashboard itself, and not by the windshield. In addition, its size being reduced, the kinetic energy that it acquires under the effect of the opening is itself decreased, which further reduces the risk of breakage of the windshield. However, the implementation of two rectangular panels is a more complex solution to implement in terms of production, which penalizes the cost of the whole. It has also been envisaged to provide the flap in a material having sufficient flexibility so that it can not break the windshield when it hits the end of opening.
This solution, however, remains difficult to implement in practice, because it must meet two contradictory requirements. the shutter must be flexible enough not to break the windshield, but it must also be rigid enough not to deform when closed, so that the dashboard retains its original shape. It has also been envisaged to equip the shutter with two links each connecting one of its edges to the dashboard, to retain it in its movement to limit the opening. Nevertheless, the presence of the lateral links reduces the surface through which the airbag deploys, which can not then deploy laterally satisfactorily. Or the cushion must be able to deploy effectively both in the frontal direction, but also in the lateral directions, so as to reliably protect an occupant seated in an unconventional position on his seat. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention is to provide a shutter arrangement to overcome the above drawbacks. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION To this end, the subject of the invention is a cap intended to be attached to an opening of a dashboard body of a motor vehicle for concealing an airbag module, and comprising a front face intended to be covered by a coating, this cap comprising a frame and a hinged flap on the frame to open and close, and means for limiting the opening of the flap located at the front face. With this solution, the entire surface between the three free edges of the flap and the dashboard is completely clear when opening the flap, which allows the cushion to deploy effectively in the lateral and frontal directions, while ensuring it can not hit the windshield of the vehicle, the flap is also rigid type.
The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, wherein the means for limiting the opening of the flap comprise a crutch along the flap having an end hinged to the frame, the articulation of the crutch being deported. relative to the articulation of the flap, and wherein the flap has on its front face a stop against which a free end of the stand comes to bear when the flap opens, so as to limit the opening.
With this arrangement, the retaining means along the front face of the shutter when closed, so that they do not form a projection protruding from the front face. The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, wherein the flap comprises at its front face a recess in which the stand is housed when it is folded against the closed flap, so as to delimit with the flap a substantially continuous front face. The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, wherein the stop is constituted by a wall oriented parallel to the joints and perpendicular to the bottom of the recess. The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, wherein the frame and the flap are manufactured as a single piece of stamped sheet metal, wherein the flap is connected to the frame by a plurality of connection points each joining a edge of the shutter at a corresponding edge of the frame, these connection points being regularly distributed along these edges. The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, in which the means for limiting the opening of the shutter comprise a generally flat rectangular tongue of stamped sheet metal which is oriented perpendicularly to the joints, this tongue having a first base portion, and a second crutch portion which is folded over the first portion and the closed flap, the two portions being connected to each other by a region forming the articulation of the crutch. The invention also relates to a cap as defined above, wherein the articulation of the stand is formed by folding the tongue. Figure 4 is an overall view showing the cap according to the invention in section when opened while the airbag is deployed. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The arrangement according to the invention which is indicated by 1 in the figures is in the form of a cap comprising a generally rectangular frame 2 defining a rectangular internal opening 3, which is equipped with a rectangular flap 4 closing this opening 3, when it is in the normal position as in FIG. 1, as well as retaining means 6 of this flap 4. The frame 2 has a shape of a flat strip of small width extending parallel to the flap 4 which it surrounds when this flap is closed, and which is provided with 6 holes marked by 7. These holes make it possible to fix the assembly rigidly to the edge of a corresponding opening of a dashboard body 9 to which it is attached, for example by means of studs or rivets shown in Figures 3 and 4 being identified by 8. The cap, comprising the frame 2 and the flap 4 and the retaining means 6 is advantageously manufactured to from cut metal sheet, stamped and / or folded. This makes it possible to produce the entire cap at a lower cost, while having a rigid flap capable of absorbing significant forces and offering good durability over time. Complementarily, the arrangement comprises an ejection channel 11 traversed by the cushion 12 when it is deployed, this channel 11 being an additional piece, whose template corresponds to that of the frame 2, and which is attached to the underside 9. It is fixed to this dashboard by means of the studs 8 by which the cap 1 is fixed to the body of the dashboard, the edge of the dashboard 9 being thus sandwiched between the frame 2 and the ejection channel 11. The ejection channel 11 which has a rectangular shape comprises four edges each having in cross section a shape generally corresponding to that of the letter U, a branch of this U being attached to the internal face or rear of the dashboard body 9.
The other leg of the U-shaped section is spaced from the body of the dashboard, and carries the airbag module comprising the enclosure 13 in which is housed the airbag itself. This enclosure 13 thus has its upper edge 14 which is fixed to the ejection channel 11 by welding or other, at the branch of its U-section which is spaced from the dashboard 9. As can be seen in FIG. once the arrangement 1 has been attached and fixed to the dashboard body 9, the assembly is covered with a coating 16 comprising a layer of foam 17 and an outer skin 18, making the shutter and its frame as well as the retaining means 6 are almost invisible to an occupant of the vehicle.
The frame 2 and the flap 4 can be manufactured in one piece, the flap 4 then being delimited by a slot 20 thanks to which the majority of its periphery is spaced from the internal contour of the frame 2. The flap 4 has also the one of its edges, namely the edge marked 19, which is connected to the corresponding edge 21 of the frame 2 by a plurality of connection points or straps regularly spaced from each other along the portion of the slot 20 which separates the edge 19 21. Each brace is punctually joined to the edge 19 of the flap 4 at the edge 21 of the frame 2, two of these straps being shown in FIG. 1 where they are marked by 22 and 23. These straps are thus aligned to define an articulation by its axis AX1 around which the flap 4 rotates to open when the cushion 12 inflates. The retaining means 6 of the flap 4 extend perpendicularly to the edge 19 of the frame 2, forming with respect to this frame 2 an extension in the form of a rectangular tongue folded on itself and extending generally in a plane parallel to that of the frame 2. This rectangular tab 6 comprises a first portion 24 forming a base, which extends in the plane of the frame 2, and which is fixed to the dashboard body 9 by the studs 8, together with the frame 2.
8 It also comprises a second part 25, forming a crutch, which extends the base 24, while being folded or folded against this base 24 and against the flap 4, so as to remain in abutment against the outer face of the flap 4. The stand 25 is articulated on the base 24 at an axis marked by AX2 parallel to the axis AX1 and spaced therefrom. This axis of articulation AX2 is defined on the one hand by two recesses 26 and 27 and possibly by a weakening of the tongue 6, resulting from a folding of the sheet in which this tongue is manufactured. This axis extends, perpendicular to the general direction of the tongue, so as to allow a rotation of the stand 25 relative to the base 24. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the flap 4 has on its outer face or front face, a recess 28, that is to say a hollow portion in which is housed the stand 25 when folded on the shutter 4 closed, which is the case in Figure 1. In this situation, the outer face or front face of the assembly formed by the frame 2, the flap 4 and the stand 25 has a generally flat or substantially curved shape, but substantially continuous. The recess 28 of the shutter 4 has a generally rectangular contour oriented along the contour of the shutter 4 itself, whose length along the axis AX1 or AX2 corresponds to the width of the stand 25 which is housed in this recess when everything is down. As can be seen in FIGS. 3 and 4, when seen in section along a plane normal to the axis AX1, the flap 4 comprises a wall formed by a first portion 29 extending from the edge 19 through which this flap is articulated on the 2 and corresponding to the bottom of the recess 28, and a second portion 31 connected to this first portion 29 and ending with the free edge 32 of the flap 4. These two wall portions 29 and 31 are generally planar and extend parallel to each other while being offset relative to each other in a direction which is normal to them. These two walls are connected to one another by a connecting portion 33 which is a wall oriented parallel to the axes AX1 and AX2 while being perpendicular to the first and the second portion, so as to constitute a stop on which abuts the end 34 of the stand 25 when the flap is opened. The end 34 of the stand 25 has a folded shape to have a semi-circular section giving this end a shape of channel. When the free edge 36 of this end 34 bears on the abutment 33, the channel gives the end of the stand 25 the elasticity enabling it to absorb the kinetic energy of the flap 4 in order to immobilize it efficiently while avoiding that the end 36 passes through the abutment 33. In the example of the figures, the frame and the flap consist of a first stamped sheet metal part, and the tongue 6 is constituted by another piece of stamped sheet metal. But the assembly can be manufactured as a single piece of stamped sheet metal, to simplify its manufacture and integration. As can be seen in FIGS. 2 and 4, the length of the stand 25 and the distance separating the axes AX1 and AX2 are provided to lock the flap 4 in a predetermined angular position, for which the free edge of this flap 4 is spaced from the edge -broken. When the stand 25 is folded on the shutter 4 closed being housed in the recess 28, the edge 36 of its end 34 is spaced from the abutment that constitutes the wall 33. In this situation, the stand 25 and the shutter 4 jointly define an outer surface that is approximately continuous and flat. When the cushion inflates, it causes the opening of the flap 4 which then pivots about its axis AX1, thus allowing the deployment of this cushion. During this opening movement, the end 34 is held in abutment on the bottom of the recess until this end 34 strikes the end wall 33 of this recess, thereby causing the immobilization of the front flap it does not hit the windshield. It should be noted that in the example of the figures, the means for limiting the opening of the flap, located on the front face of the cap, are essentially formed by a crutch. But these retaining means may also be formed by a system comprising two movable plates connected to one another by a hinge and having their ends hinged respectively on the outer face of the flap and on the frame. In this other solution, the assembly formed by the frame, the two plates and the shutter seen in section constitutes a deformable parallelogram of which one side, namely the hinged plate on the frame, bears on the dashboard when the shutter opens to limit the opening.
