Abstract

The method involves programming a logic controller for acquiring values of parameters e.g. engine load, of a diesel engine at a time interval when a motor vehicle is rolling. Cartography of the engine is detected by calculating rate of carbonaceous material during the time interval. The rate of carbonaceous material calculated during the time interval is added with rate of carbonaceous material calculated during another time interval for obtaining global rate of carbonaceous material.

Description

1 PROCEDE DE PREDICTION DE LA QUANTITE DE MATIERES CHARBONNEUSES DANS L'HUILE D'UN MOTEUR DIESEL DE VEHICULE AUTOMOBILE 1 METHOD FOR PREDICTING THE QUANTITY OF CHARCOAL MATERIALS IN THE OIL OF A DIESEL ENGINE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

Ce taux est comparé à un DESCRIPTION TECHNICAL FIELD In automotive diesel engines, carbonaceous materials accumulate in the engine lubricating oil. Since these materials are abrasive, it is necessary to change the engine oil as soon as a certain concentration of carbonaceous material is reached in the engine oil. However, there is currently no method for knowing precisely the amount of carbonaceous material present in the oil of an engine. This leads to draining the oil more often than it is actually needed. Conversely, it is possible that the maximum amount of carbonaceous materials is reached without the driver being notified. It continues to roll by damaging its engine. Therefore, there is a need for a method to accurately say what is the amount of carbonaceous material present in the engine oil. Such a method makes it possible: to increase the interval between two emptyings when the critical quantity has not been reached; or, on the contrary, to cause an early emptying if the process makes it possible to know that the critical quantity of carbonaceous materials has already been reached. These goals are achieved, as in accordance with the invention, by the fact that: establishes on the test bench, a mapping of the rate of carbonaceous materials in the oil of a motor vehicle diesel engine according to vehicle parameters automobile; the operation of the engine of this cartography is implemented in a computing unit of acquisition when a motor vehicle; a calculator for rolling, the program values the vehicle 25 engine parameters at time intervals; - Calculation mapping is used to deduce the rate of carbonaceous material for the time interval (t); this rate of carbonaceous material calculated by the time interval (t) is added to the rate of carbonaceous material calculated for the time interval (t-1) to obtain an overall level of carbonaceous materials. Advantageously: the overall rate of carbonaceous material obtained at time (t) is compared with a threshold; if the threshold is exceeded, an emptying request is made to the vehicle dashboard. In a particular embodiment, the operating parameters of the engine of the vehicle are the engine speed, the engine load, the temperature of the engine cooling water and the air temperature at the engine intake. Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the description which follows, made with reference to the single figure on which the principle of the invention is schematically illustrated. The method of the invention uses a calculation unit 2 present on board the vehicle. In this calculation unit, a map of the engine has been implemented from the tests carried out in a previous step. The engine speed, the engine load, the temperature of the engine cooling water and the air temperature at the engine intake are entered into the computer. An algorithm is implemented in the computer 2 for calculating the amount of carbonaceous material in the oil from these four parameters. When the vehicle rolls, the computer will search at time intervals, preferably regular, the information on the speed, the load, the temperature of the engine air temperature. These values are introduced in the map. From this mapping, we obtain a rate of carbonaceous materials for the time interval (t). This level of carbonaceous material is then added to the previous rate of carbonaceous material obtained at the time interval (t-1). The evolution of the amount of carbonaceous materials in the oil is thus continuously obtained. This rate is compared to a
