APPAREIL DU TYPE NÉGATOSCOPE À DIODES ÉLECTROLUMINESCENTES. APPARATUS OF THE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE TYPE NEGATOSCOPE.
FIELD OF APPLICATION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to the field of radiology and relates more particularly to a device of the negatoscope type which makes it possible to read and interpret radiological images by diffusing light therethrough. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART At present, the negatoscopes comprise a transparent plate that illuminates a fluorescent discharge tube more commonly called neon disposed at its lower part. There are better-performing negatoscopes such as that described in French Patent No. 0114927 which proposes to use a digital camera to optimize and embellish the radiological images by digitization process and image processing of the above shots radiographic. When X-rays are digitized with such a digital viewer and a conventional X-ray viewer, there are at least two major difficulties. The first difficulty is related to the very nature of the light source using a neon which sometimes gives inhomogeneous ranges that are perceived when the scanning is done. This results in certain parts of the image that are more enlightened than others, which may hinder the practitioner's interpretation in reading and interpreting the radiological image. The cause is related to the variation of light intensity inside the neon, which variation is necessarily reflected in digital photography. This is even more true when scanning medical scanner films. The second difficulty that can be encountered is, for its part, related to the inadequacy of the format of the radiological film placed on the light table of the negatoscope at the surface illuminated by the discharge tube. Indeed, if the format of the radiological film is of the same size as the luminous plate, the light does not interfere with the vision of the practitioner. On the other hand, it is obvious that if the format of the radiological film is smaller than the illuminated surface of the luminous plate, there will be, at the periphery of the image, reflections of the negatoscope on the eye of the observer which may render less efficient reading and interpretation of radiological film. On the other hand, the digitization by a camera encounters the same difficulty as the human eye and is somewhere also hampered by the reflections of the light around the X-ray film smaller than the luminous surface of a conventional lightbox. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION On the basis of this state of affairs, the applicant has conducted research which has resulted in a new concept of apparatus of the Negatoscope type, making it possible to obviate, in particular, the aforementioned difficulties. According to the main characteristic of the invention, the apparatus of the negatoscope type for reading radiological films comprising at least. a transparent plate on which the radiological film is placed; and a light source disposed beneath the transparent plate for diffusing light through said plate and the radiological film placed on it, is remarkable in that the said light source consists of a set of light-emitting diodes. Thus, the light source of the apparatus of the invention, which preferably consists of a base of light-emitting diodes arranged in a rectangle or in a square, will have a constant luminous intensity with, as a result, a homogeneously diffused light on - 3 - the entire illuminated surface of the transparent plate and which will not create, as with the neon light source, the distortions that appeared when we scan the films of some medical scanners with a digital camera. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the aforesaid light source is composed of light-emitting diodes powered by an electrical circuit that can be modulated in intensity in order to increase or decrease the lighting luminous power of the transparent plate and consequently radiological film placed on it. Thus, by increasing or decreasing the intensity of the power supply circuit of the diodes using a potentiometer for example, the modulation of the lighting power of the plate will allow to study some more precise details of the X-rays such as calcifications in the soft tissues (in the osteoarticular system or in the mammary gland). According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the aforesaid light source is composed of light-emitting diodes powered by a selective electrical circuit making it possible to feed certain light-emitting diodes or not to adapt the format of the lighting surface of the light source. plate in the format of the X-ray film. Thus, by illuminating rectangles or squares of specific diodes, for example by means of selective switches programmed in this way, it will be possible to obtain rectangles or light squares of different surfaces corresponding to the standard formats of the various films. radiological. This selection of light-emitting diodes can of course be pre-programmed according to the different radiological film formats on the market. The adequacy of the light surface in the format of the radiological films 35 which can be achieved manually via a selector or automatically, has the great advantage of making the parasitic light disappear around a radiographic film of smaller size than the light source of the device. According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, the negatoscope-type apparatus of the invention comprises a digital camera equipped with a macro lens thus making it possible to digitize the image of the aforementioned radiological films illuminated by the said light source. light-emitting diodes for digitized image processing for display on a screen and / or storage and / or optimization and beautification. For this purpose, the apparatus of the negatoscope type comprises a closed optical enclosure constituting a dark room or a dark room, enclosing the aforesaid transparent plate on which the radiological film is placed, the aforementioned light source consisting of light-emitting diodes and the camera digital. In a general manner, the apparatus of the invention of the negatoscope type for digitizing radiographic images is in the form of a closed optical enclosure enclosing: a base of light-emitting diodes, a transparent plate, colonnettes uniting the light-emitting diode base and the transparent plate; and a digital camera having a macro lens, the assembly being connected to an intensity-adjustable power source, to a diode selection module adaptable to the format radiological films, and a processing unit of the digitized image at the output of the camera for interpretation and / or display on screen.
Experimentation with standard X-rays, scanners, I.R.M., and mammograms on such a light-emitting diode-type apparatus made it possible to observe that the heterogeneity of the scanned scanner images disappeared. This demonstrates that the light that was generated by the neon type discharge tube induced heterogeneous light areas in this image scan making it more difficult to read. The light-emitting diode-type apparatus of the invention not only eliminates this artifact but also offers the possibility of illuminating radiological images too dark and / or poorly contrasted through the modulation of the light power. This is a remarkable gain in quality because it affects both the soft tissue and the bone system. It will be understood that the apparatus of the Negatoscope type, which has just been described above, has been for the purpose of disclosure rather than limitation. Of course, various arrangements, modifications and improvements may be made, without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
For example, this device will optimize the scanning of any imaginable form of transparent photographic plate such as slides.
