MOTEUR A COMBUSTION INTERNE COMPORTANT UN REPARTITEUR D'ADMISSION D'AIR ETINTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE HAVING AN AIR SUPPLY DISTRIBUTOR AND
The invention relates to internal combustion engines, and more particularly to the air supply of these engines. The invention applies in particular to the motorization of motor vehicles, and more particularly to small vehicles whose engine compartment is relatively small. [0002] Motor vehicle engines are now experiencing new constraints in terms of compactness. Indeed, given certain currents of style that lead to a lowering of the front hoods, manufacturers are led to reduce the size of the engine along the vertical axis of the vehicle. [0003] Internal combustion engines with in-line cylinders, such as those mounted on motor vehicles, generally consist of a first casing, said casing of cylinders in which the in-line cylinders are located, as well as the mobile hitch consisting of of the pistons / connecting rods / crankshaft assembly. Above the cylinder block, along an axis substantially parallel to the vertical axis of the cylinders, is fixed a second housing, said cylinder head housing which includes the distribution mainly composed of valves and camshafts. The cylinder head cover is closed by a cylinder head cover which includes openings for the de-oiling function and for the air intake manifold. Thus, between the upper part of the engine and the hood is the air intake manifold generally composed of an air intake chamber, also called plenum and air intake ducts connecting said chamber to the cylinders. It then appears that the layout of the distributor does not go in the direction of compactness sought along the vertical axis of the vehicle. In order to reduce the size of the engine along the vertical axis of the vehicle, the prior art documents US6009863 and EP1482147 propose to integrate the air intake manifold in the cylinder head cover. However, this concept does not allow to sufficiently reduce the vertical dimension, another solution, also known from the prior art, was considered. The latter is to deport the air intake distributor so as to fix it, no longer on the upper face of the engine, but on a side face of the engine, and more particularly in the vicinity of the cylinder head housing. Given the constraints related to the alignment of the cylinders, the air intake distributor is screwed more precisely 15 on the cylinder head housing, facing the passenger compartment of the vehicle. This solution, however, requires sealingly fix the air intake manifold on the cylinder head housing. Therefore, our invention aims to reduce the size of the engine. More specifically, the invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a plurality of cylinders and a cylinder head housing, each cylinder being provided with at least one air intake duct, said intake ducts being supplied with by an air intake manifold having an air distribution chamber, characterized in that the air distribution chamber is formed in the cylinder head housing. According to certain characteristics, the air distribution chamber is integrated in the casing. According to other features, the air intake ducts are integrated casting in the cylinder head housing.
According to other characteristics, the cylinder head housing is made of aluminum alloy. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a cylinder head housing characterized in that it performs a single step of core foundry, so that i0 the casting step simultaneously delimits the interior volume of the cylinder head housing and the air distribution chamber. According to certain features, a single core casting step is carried out so that the casting step simultaneously delimits at least the interior volume of the cylinder head casing and the air intake ducts. According to other features, the single foundry step uses a single foundry core. According to other features, the single casting core is maintained during the casting step by a single core span defining the inlet of the air distribution chamber. The invention also relates to a vehicle, characterized in that it comprises an internal combustion engine comprising an intake distributor according to the invention. According to certain features, the air distribution chamber comprises an inlet perpendicular to the plane of the cylinders. Other features and advantages will appear on reading the description below, given by way of non-limiting example, with reference to the figures in which: FIG. 1 represents an overall view of a motor 5 internal combustion intended to be mounted on a vehicle according to one embodiment of the invention, - Figure 2 is a view of a cylinder head housing according to the embodiment shown in Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a view of section along an axis x of the cylinder head housing shown in Figure 2. [0007] Figure 1 shows an internal combustion engine 1 with in-line cylinders intended to be mounted transversely on a motor vehicle according to a x, y, z, where x represents the longitudinal axis, y the transverse axis and z the vertical axis of the vehicle. The engine 1 comprises a casing 2 containing four cylinders in line. On the cylinder block 2, is mounted on the vertical axis z of the vehicle a cylinder head cover 3. The cylinder head housing 3 is covered by a cylinder head cover 40 separate from said housing 3 and which incorporates a de-oiler 41 and In accordance with the invention, an air intake manifold 90 is provided in the cylinder head housing 3 and not in the cylinder head cover 40. More specifically, the air inlet distributor 90 comprises an inlet 91 opening on the rear face of the engine 1. The rear face of the engine block 1 is defined as lying in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis x of the vehicle, on the side the passenger compartment of the vehicle. On the rear face of the engine block 1, and at the level of the cylinder head housing 3, is also advantageously arranged a conventional exhaust gas recirculation device comprising a valve 5, a bypass 6, an exchanger 7 and a 8. [0008] Figure 2 shows the cylinder head housing 3 which is integrated an air intake manifold 90 comprising an inlet 91 opening on the rear face of the engine 1, and which is associated with a conventional recirculation device exhaust gas. On either side of the distributor 90, have been arranged in the cylinder head housing 3, on the one hand a conduit leading to the valve 5 and on the other hand a metering device 10. The conduit leading to the valve 5 makes it possible to convey part of the exhaust gas to the valve 5. As needed, the exhaust gas passes through the bypass 6 and is then cooled in the exchanger 8. The metering device 10 makes it possible to regulate the flow of fresh air which from said metering device 10 to the inlet 91 of the distributor 90 15 through a conduit not shown in the figures. The conduit 8 conveys the cooled exhaust gas in the exchanger 7 to a stitching, not shown in the figures, performed in the conduit connecting the metering device 10 to the inlet 91 of the distributor 90. [0009 Figure 3 shows an air intake manifold 90 composed of an elongate air distribution chamber 92 extending along the transverse axis y of the vehicle. The air distribution chamber 92 communicates with each cylinder of the engine by means of two air intake ducts 93, ie an inlet duct. Said air intake ducts 93 extend along an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis x of the vehicle and admit a bent portion at the junction 94 with the cylinders. The invention also relates to a manufacturing method for carrying out in a simple manner an engine according to the invention. More specifically, the manufacturing process of the cylinder head housing 3 incorporating the distributor 90, comprises a single core casting step simultaneously defining the internal volume of said housing 3 and the air distribution chamber 92 of the distributor 90. In addition, the internal volume of the air distribution chamber 92 is obtained by means of a single casting core, during the single casting step. The latter is summarized in a conventional manner to the casting of the alloy constituting the housing 3. Advantageously, according to a preferred variant, the interior volume of the air intake distributor 90, consisting of the distribution chamber of 92 air and 93 air intake ducts, is obtained by means of a single casting core, during the single stage is foundry. Advantageously, the foundry core corresponding to the internal volume of the air intake manifold 90 is maintained during casting by a single core range which, when removed, delimits the input 91 of the distributor. Thus, it is not necessary, after the casting step, to reseal the opening left by removal of the core scope. Preferably, the cylinder head housing 3 is made of aluminum alloy. It appears first of all that the integration of the distributor 90 in the cylinder head housing 3 reduces the size 25 along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Indeed, the internal volume of the distribution chamber 92 disposed according to the prior art outside the cylinder head housing, is formed according to the invention within the cylinder head housing. Meanwhile, in case of shock-pedestrian, the distributor is no longer an obstacle, since it is no longer immediately under the hood but in the cylinder head housing. Thus, when the bonnet folds under the impact of the pedestrian, the integration of the distributor 90 in the crankcase 3 can meet the security prerogatives in terms of pedestrian-shock. Then, the volume of air contained in the distribution chamber 92 can lighten the cylinder head housing 3. Depending on the type of engine, it is possible to achieve mass savings of up to 10%. In addition, the fact of not having to seal the distributor 90 to the cylinder head housing 3, eliminates the necessary fastening means in the prior art and to gain reliability in terms of seal. Finally, it appears that the manufacturing process of the cylinder head housing 3 with the integrated casting distributor 90, makes it possible to overcome the manufacturing steps of the distributor inherent in the prior art. Other embodiments of the invention are possible such as having a partially integrated casting splitter. In this case, either the air distribution chamber 92 or the air intake ducts 93 are integrated in the casing 3.25
