Abstract
Description
In the breeding of animals, especially pigs, it is quite common that several sows need to be inseminated at the same time. In addition, in order to obtain a high fertilization rate, it is necessary to inseminate two to three times within a few days. It is well known to package animal semen, that is to say spermatozoa suspended in a liquid nutrient carrier, inside pouches or plastic bags whose volume corresponds to a unit dose of semen. that is, a dose sufficient to inject a required number of sperm. In porcine insemination, such a volume is for example of the order of 70 to 80 ml. The technician in charge of inseminations must therefore provide a volume of seed conditioning large enough to perform all inseminations, and transfer this seed in bags corresponding to a unit dose. He must have at his disposal as many bags as animals, this number of bags being multiplied by two or three depending on the number of inseminations to be implemented successively. It is clear that such a way of doing increases the number of manipulations for the operator, since each time has to connect a different insemination bag. Moreover, when the inseminations are finished, the empty pockets constitute as much waste which one gets rid of.
We have therefore sought to rationalize such operations. Thus it was proposed, a number of years ago, to provide a large capacity container provided with a tap, which is connected via a tubing, a bag containing a volume corresponding to a unit dose. . This bag is also connected to a probe via a second pipe. Thus, for each insemination, it is sufficient to fill the bag with seed contained in the large container. This procedure of course makes it possible to limit as much as possible the number of containers used for all the inseminations.
However, this system has a number of disadvantages. In the first place, a relatively long time is necessary for the bag to be filled with seed by gravity phenomenon. In addition, this waiting time is added to that which is necessary for the "pumping" by the sow of the seed that is delivered. Under these conditions, the time it is necessary to implement to perform each insemination operation is relatively long. The present invention aims at improving such a device by proposing a system in which not only is the number of containers used during these multiple inseminations reduced as much as possible, but also the time required for each insemination is rationalized. The present invention thus proposes a device for dispensing, within an animal insemination probe, a predetermined volume dose of animal semen, which comprises: a main seed storage container, which contains at least a predetermined volume dose - said unit dose - of said seed; a first tube connected to an outlet of said main distribution container of said seed, which communicates with an auxiliary container whose volume is equal to that of a unit dose, this auxiliary container being itself connected to a second tubing connectable to an insemination means. This device is remarkable in that: - said auxiliary container is elastically deformable, and - its upstream and downstream ports communicate with said first 25 and second manifolds via first and second selective opening / closing means, this container and these means being arranged in such a way that pressure on said auxiliary container automatically and respectively opens the first and closing the second means, thereby allowing seed flow from the main container to the auxiliary container, while the releasing this pressure respectively causes the closure of the first and the opening of the second means, which expels the seed of the auxiliary container to the second tubing. According to other advantageous and nonlimiting features: said first and second selective opening / closing means consist of valves or non-return valves; said first and second selective opening / closing means are carried by connection ends forming an integral part of said auxiliary container; said first and second selective opening / closing means are carried by said first and second pipes, in the vicinity of their respective downstream and upstream ends; said auxiliary container consists of a bellows pocket, a pressure on it bringing said bellows closer together, while the release of this pressure causes their removal; The device comprises a clamp whose actuation is able to apply a pressure on said auxiliary container; the jaws of said clamp bear longitudinally and respectively on the end bellows of said container; the pipes have different diameters; Said insemination means consists of a probe or an intrauterine insemination catheter. Other advantageous features of the invention will become apparent on reading the following detailed description of certain preferred embodiments. This description will be made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 is a schematic view of a dispensing device according to the present invention; - Figures 2 and 3 are top views of an auxiliary container 25 which is part of the dispensing device and which is shown in two different working positions; FIG. 4 is a view similar to that of FIG. 1, the device being additionally provided with a manual clamp for actuating the auxiliary container of FIGS. 2 and 3. In the present application, the terms " "upstream" and "downstream" are used with reference to the flow direction of the seed from the main vessel to the insemination probe. The dispensing device according to the invention comprises in the first place a main seed storage container 1, which contains at least a predetermined volume dose, called unit dose, of said seed S.
In the embodiment of Figure 1, the main container 1 consists of a pocket 10 which is defined by two sheets of plastic material welded at their periphery to form a seal 11. Such a structure is already well known for the packaging of 5 seeds in the field of porcine artificial insemination. The capacity of this container is for example several liters. In any case, this capacity is greater than that required for the administration of a unit dose of semen to the animal to be inseminated. This container 1 is provided with an outlet channel to which is connected a tubing 12. This channel can also be used for filling the container. However, in an embodiment not shown, this container may be provided with a resealable opening which serves exclusively for the introduction of seed. The tubing 12 is preferably equipped with a valve not shown. At this outlet 12 of the container 1 is connected a first tube 2. This is for example a cylindrical plastic tube 12. The connection of the tubing 2 to the outlet 12 is made by any known means of the skilled person. The downstream end 21 of the tubing 2 communicates with a receptacle 3 which is described as an auxiliary receptacle. Its volume V 'is equal to that of a unit dose of seed. This auxiliary container here consists of an elastically deformable bag, consisting of bellows referenced 30. This auxiliary container has an upstream orifice 31 and a downstream orifice 32 which are shaped cone frustums. The orifice 31 is connected to the downstream end of the pipe 2, while the downstream orifice 32 is connected to the upstream end 40 of a second pipe 4. For keying purposes, the orifices 31 and 32 have different sizes so that it is not wrong when connecting the tubing 2 and 4.
At the openings 31 and 32, check valves or check valves referenced C 1 and C 2 are provided. These means may as well be arranged in the pipes 2 and 4 at their respective downstream and upstream ends, or in another embodiment, inside the orifices 31 and 32 of the auxiliary container.
As indicated above, the device according to the invention comprises a second tube 4 whose downstream end 41 is connectable, by means of a mounting piece 42, to the tube 50 of an insemination probe 5 provided with a deformable head 51. This is of course a simple example of realization. In practice, any insemination means known to those skilled in the art can be connected, in particular an intrauterine insemination catheter. FIGS. 2 and 3 show two extreme positions of the auxiliary container 3. The first of these positions may be described as a rest position, which means that the bellows or folds of this container are distant from each other. In this position, the valves C 1 and C2 are respectively open and closed, which means that the valve 1 allows the flow of semen from the main container 1 to this auxiliary container 3. The valve 2 is, in turn, closed, so that the seed is retained in the container. In Figure 2, there is referenced arrow which symbolizes the flow of seed into the container. By longitudinal pressure on the folds of the bellows container 3, the folds 30 are brought closer to each other so that this pressure causes the closure of the valve C 1 and the opening of the valve C2. This manipulation therefore allows the expulsion of the seed dose 20 into the second tubulure 4 which communicates with the probe. In other words, this means that with each pressure or release of the pressure inside the container 3, a new dose of seed is admitted into the container and then expelled towards the patient. 5. In this way, there is no loss of time between two fills of the container 3. In Figure 4 is shown an alternative embodiment of the device which makes use of a gripper 6 for manual use, which makes it possible to facilitate the application of a pressure on the bellows of the container 3. This clamp comprises two jaws 60 and 61 which bear respectively, when brought together, on the bellows 30 of the end of the container, on both sides. other end of the tips 31 and 32. Moreover, the tubings 2, 4, and the container 3 are disposable products, so that when an insemination campaign is over, simply replace them with new products to perform another series of inseminations. By way of example, the constituent materials of the main containers 1, 35 tubings 2 and 4 and auxiliary container 3 are as follows: 5 - main container 1: polyethylene / polypropylene or polyethylene / aluminized complex combination; - tubing 2: silicone; tubing 4: polyvinyl chloride crystal; - auxiliary container 3: low density polyethylene. Finally, to facilitate the work of the technician responsible for insemination, it may be useful and convenient to transport the main container in a bag (for example of the type backpack), it will wear ventral position.
