Abstract

The baton (10) has a side handle forming projection (14) obtained form a cylindrical steel rod (12). Another projection (15) obtained from the rod is formed in a partial space (El) opposite to the projection (14) with respect to the rod, where the two projections are in same plane. The projection (15) has a compressed concave portion (36) stretched in an acute angular sector (38) that is formed by the projection (15) and the rod. The rod comprises an anti-skid zone (22) oriented in a direction of the projection (14). A bead (26) is provided at a free end (28) of the projection (14).

Description

Defense baton with side handle
  The invention relates to a side-grip defense stick sometimes also called tonfa. A side-handle defense stick comprises, in a manner known per se, a cylindrical main stem, or body of the stick, and a lateral handle formed by a projection of symmetry of revolution extending from the stem. The base of this lateral grip projection is substantially at a distance equal to one third of the length of the main stem. With such a defense stick it is possible to parry a number of attacks, these being worn with bare hands or possibly armed with a weapon type knife or baseball bat or others. However, the parry carried out by means of such a defense stick may be insufficient to prevent the person attacked from being injured. An object of the invention is therefore to improve the known lateral grip batons, in particular so that they do not have the aforementioned drawbacks and in particular to reduce the risk of injury in case of defense by means of a defense stick with side handle. This object of the invention is achieved by means of a side-handle defense stick comprising a rod and a first symmetrical projection of revolution, issuing from the rod and forming a lateral handle, which is remarkable in that it further comprises a second projection from the rod which is formed in the half space opposite to said handle relative to the rod. Thus, as will be clearer from reading the following description of the invention, the second projection makes it possible to stop a knife attack by blocking either the knife itself or a part of the aggressor's arm. between the second projection and the rod of the defense stick according to the invention. Preferably, the defense stick according to the invention comprises one or more of the following characteristics, taken alone or in combination: the second projection and the projection forming a handle extend in the same plane; the second projection comprises a substantially cylindrical portion; - the stem is cylindrical; the second projection delimits a portion of the rod of greater length and forms an acute angle with the portion of the rod of greater length; said acute angle is substantially equal to 35; - The second projection further comprises a flattened portion extending in the acute angular sector formed by the second projection and the rod; said flattened portion is concave; - The second projection has a lug in the vicinity of its free end; said lug extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axis of the substantially cylindrical portion of the second projection; said substantially cylindrical portion of the second projection has a bead formed at its free end; - The base of the projection forming a side handle is located at a distance substantially equal to 30% of the total length of the rod; - The base of the second projection is located at a distance substantially equal to 35% of the total length of the rod; the projection forming a lateral handle forms an acute angle, preferably of the order of 85, with the rod; the acute angles formed respectively by the first and the second projections with the rod are opposed; the projection forming a lateral handle has a bead at its free end; the cylindrical rod has a flat oriented towards the projection forming a side handle; - At least a portion of the rod is formed of telescopic elements adapted to be selectively deployed to form the portion of the rod; it furthermore comprises means for controlling the deployment of the telescopic elements; and - the control means comprise a push button arranged on the projection forming a handle adapted to control the deployment of the telescopic elements held in their folded position by a spring. The invention will be better understood on reading the description which will be given with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows a top view of the defense stick according to the invention; FIGS. 2 to 5 show examples of use of the defense stick of FIG. 1. In the description which follows, the term "cylindrical" is understood in its widest sense. Thus, in the description, cylindrical means a geometry obtained by translating in a fixed direction, a closed curve, which thus delimits the section of the geometry. Referring now to Figure 1 which shows a defense stick with side handle 10 according to the invention.
  The lateral grip defense stick 10 according to the invention comprises a rod 12 and a first protrusion 14 of symmetry of revolution, issuing from the rod 12 and forming a lateral handle. Remarkably, the defense stick 10 according to the invention further comprises a second projection 15 coming from the rod 12 which is formed in the half-space El opposite to the projection forming lateral handle 14 with respect to the rod 12, the protruding lateral handle 14 and the rod 12 defining a second half-space E2. As shown in FIG. 1, the base 16 of the lateral handle projection 14 is located at a distance d1 substantially equal to 30% of the total length of the rod 12, this distance d1 being measured from one end of reference 18. Thus, the projection forming lateral handle 14 defines two portions of the rod 12: a first portion 20 of greater length on a part of which the cylindrical rod 12 preferably has a zone 22 oriented in the direction of the protruding lateral handle 14 which has a non-slip surface, this surface being preferably obtained by a suitable surface treatment such as grinding; and - a second portion 24 of shorter length, which is preferably covered with a non-slip material so as to allow a good grip of the defense stick 10 by a user, at this second portion 24. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, shown in Figure 1, the rod 12 is cylindrical, preferably symmetrical of revolution. Preferably, the lateral grip projection 14 forms with the rod 12 an acute angle α which, more preferably, is of the order of 85. Thus, it facilitates the rotational movement of the defense stick according to the invention held by the projection forming a lateral handle 14. Moreover, the projection forming side handle 14 has a bead 26 at its free end 28 which avoids to let go the lateral grip defense stick 10, which can occur in particular during rotational movements with respect to the projection forming a side handle. According to the particularly preferred embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1, the bead 26 has a dome which makes it possible to obtain a greater pressure point in the event of blows carried with the free end 28 of the projection forming a handle. lateral 14.
  In addition, according to the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in FIG. 1, the second projection 15 and the lateral grip projection 14 extend in the same plane P, in this case the plane of FIG. 1. However, the bases of the lateral handle projection 14 on the one hand and the second projection 15 on the other hand are preferably slightly offset with respect to each other. In this case, the base of the second projection 15 is located at a distance d2 substantially equal to 35% of the total length of the rod 12 of the reference end 18 of the rod 12. This second projection 15 comprises, more specifically, a substantially cylindrical portion 30, which has a bead 32 formed at its free end 34. The second projection 15 further comprises a flattened portion 36 extending into the acute angular sector 38 formed by the second projection 15 and the rod 12, this flattened portion 36 being preferably concave, as shown in FIG. 1. Moreover, the second projection 15 has a lug 40 in the vicinity of its free end 34, the lug 40 preferably having the shape an isosceles triangle whose height h is perpendicular to the axis A of the cylindrical portion 30 of the second projection 15.
  Some examples of advantageous uses of the defense stick according to the invention will now be described with reference to FIGS. 2 to 5. In FIG. 2, there is shown a knife attack of an individual A by an individual B.sub.1 individual A being provided with a defense stick with side handle 10 according to the invention.
  As can be seen in this FIG. 2, when the individual B attacks the individual A with his knife 42, while raising the arm 44, the individual A, who holds a lateral grip defense stick 10 according to the invention by the lateral handle projection 14, orients the side-handle stick 10 so that the second projection 15 is oriented substantially towards the individual B.
