Abstract
Description
Les torches deThe present invention relates to a welding torch. Torches
This type of welding torch also comprises means for supplying gas to the outlet opening. These means consist of a diffuser disposed between the nozzle and the contact tube. The diffuser has an internal gas inlet channel and provides the nozzle with an annular external gas diffusion channel to the outlet orifice. The two channels are interconnected by radial orifices distributed around the periphery of the diffuser. After a certain time of use of the torch, it appears that projections of metal particles penetrate through the outlet opening in the outer annular channel which forms a relatively large free space. These metal particles accumulate between the nozzle and the diffuser which can lead to an electrical bridge and the deterioration of the torch. To remedy this drawback, it is known to have between the nozzle and the diffuser an insulating ring. However, at the end of this ring located near the radial orifices can occur an accumulation of particles that disrupts the laminar diffusion of the gas stream and can then generate welds of poor quality. Therefore, interventions for cleaning the torch should be performed regularly every fifty cycles. The invention aims to propose a welding torch that overcomes these disadvantages. The invention therefore relates to a welding torch, of the type comprising: - an outer casing forming a nozzle provided with an outlet opening of a consumable electrode, a contact tube disposed between the inner wall of the nozzle and the consumable electrode for providing the electrical connection of the consumable electrode, and - a gas diffuser arranged concentrically between the nozzle and the contact tube and providing an internal channel for the arrival of a gas and a channel external annular gas diffusion between said nozzle and said diffuser to the outlet, said channels being interconnected by radial orifices distributed around the periphery of the diffuser, characterized in that it comprises, between the nozzle and the diffuser and upstream of the diffusion orifices relative to the gas flow direction, an insulated chamber for temporary storage of projections of metal particles inside the nozzle. According to other characteristics of the invention: the chamber is set back with respect to the diffusion orifices, the insulated chamber comprises, with respect to the direction of circulation of the gas, a closed upstream end and an open downstream end; the chamber is delimited by a ring comprising a cylindrical body mounted on the diffuser and, at one end, a support flange on the inner wall of the nozzle to form the closed upstream end of said chamber, 20 - the ring is maintained on the diffuser by an O-ring, and - the ring is made of an insulating material. The features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description given by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic view in axial section of a welding torch according to the invention, and FIG. 2 is a schematic perspective view of a ring defining a temporary storage chamber projections of metal particles belonging to the welding torch shown in FIG. 1.
In FIG. 1, there is shown schematically, in axial section, a welding torch, generally designated by the reference 1, for example of the type "MIG" or "MAG".
This welding torch 1 comprises an outer casing 10 forming a nozzle made for example of a ceramic material and whose front end 10a converges to a frustoconical shape for example. This front end 10a of the nozzle 10 is provided with an outlet opening 11 for the passage, conventionally, of a consumable electrode 12 constituted by a metal wire. It also comprises a contact tube 13 disposed between the inner wall of the front end 10a and the consumable electrode 12 intended to ensure the elastic connection of the consumable electrode 12.
The welding torch 1 also comprises a gas diffuser 15 constituted by a tube which is arranged concentrically between the nozzle 10 and the contact tube 13. The diffuser 15 has a closed end 15a in which the contact tube 13 is held and an open end 15b connected to gas supply means.
For this purpose, the diffuser 15 comprises an internal channel 16 for the arrival of the gas, and this diffuser 15 couples with the nozzle 10 an external annular channel 17 for diffusing the gas towards the outlet opening 11. The internal channel 16 and the annular external channel 17 are interconnected by radial orifices 18 distributed around the periphery of this diffuser 15.
As shown in FIG. 1, the welding torch 1 is provided with an insulated chamber 20 for temporary storage of projections of metal particles inside the nozzle 10. This chamber 20 is formed between the nozzle 10 and the diffuser 15 upstream of the orifices of diffusion 18 of the gas with respect to the direction of circulation of this gas indicated by the arrows F.
La chambre 20 est en retrait par rapport aux orifices de diffusion 18.As shown in FIG. 1, the chamber 20 comprises, with respect to the direction of flow of the gas, an upstream end 20a closed off and an open downstream end 20b communicating with the annular channel 17. The chamber 20 is set back with respect to the diffusion orifices 18.
This chamber 20 is delimited by a ring designated by the general reference 30, shown in FIG. 2. The ring 30 comprises a cylindrical body 31 mounted on the diffuser 15 and this cylindrical body 31 comprises at one end a flange 32 bearing on the inner wall of the nozzle 10 so as to form the upstream end 20a closed of the chamber 20, as shown in FIG. The ring 30 is held on the diffuser 15 by an O-ring 35 placed in a groove 36 formed on the inner wall of the cylindrical body 31 of the ring 30. Thus, the O-ring 35 is compressed between a groove in the outer wall of the diffuser 15 and the groove 36 which keeps the ring 30 in position on the diffuser 15. The ring 30 is made of an insulating material.
The insulated chamber 20 thus created by the ring 30 serves as a receptacle for projections of metal particles which penetrate inside the nozzle 10 by the annular channel 17. These metal particles are received and stored temporarily in the chamber 20 and do not cover not the diffusion orifices 18 of the gas which therefore does not disturb the flow of gas 15 directed towards the outlet opening 11. The ring 30 delimiting the storage chamber of the metal particles makes it possible to reduce the frequency of the manual removal that is carried out every three hundred cycles instead of every fifty cycles with the solder torches used hitherto and having no temporary chamber for storing metal particles according to the invention. The gas diffusion ports 18 are automatically cleaned at each blow-welding cycle of compressed air loaded with a release agent. The blowing of this compressed air imprinted in the torch the same circuit as the shielding gas.
