Regeneration process of a particulate filter motorisation system.
The invention relates to a regeneration method of a motorization system with an oxidation catalyst and particulate filter.
It is known to equip motorization systems, including diesel engines, with a particulate filter to reduce soot released into the atmosphere. However, this type of filter clogs, and it is necessary to regularly burn the soot trapped in the filter. This operation is called regeneration. The exhaust line of an oxidation catalyst is also equipped upstream of the particulate filter to burn unburned gases contained in the exhaust gas. This combustion also makes it possible to increase the temperature in the particulate filter and thus contribute to the regeneration.
Regeneration is achieved by raising the temperature of the exhaust gases to get the soot ignition. Various means have been envisaged among which a regeneration method, disclosed in EP 1 283 342, according to which the fuel injection is carried out in a particular manner.
In a particular embodiment of this process, during the regeneration phase, the injection scheme set out in FIG. 2B of EP 1 283 342 is carried out. The injection scheme determines at which instants, with reference to the position angular of the crankshaft relative to the top dead center reached at the end of a compression phase, fuel injections take place in a given cylinder. A first injection is performed before the top dead center, a main injection is made around the top dead center, and a third injection, called post-injection, is performed during the relaxation phase, after the passage of the top dead center.
However, when the engine is operating at low speed, for example at a rotation speed of less than 3000 revolutions per minute and with an effective mean pressure of less than 10 bar, it is necessary to carry out the third injection very late, that is, ie when the crankshaft is in a position between 65 [deg] and 150 [deg] after the passage of the top dead center. In this case, the sufficient temperature before the particulate filter is obtained provided to inject a large amount of fuel. However, it is found that the injection in these conditions leads to depositing fuel against the walls of the cylinder, which fuel then passes into the engine oil, which is detrimental to the operation of the engine. This phenomenon is called fuel dilution in the engine oil.
In addition, fuel combustion of the late injection is incomplete. From one cycle to another, the mechanical efficiency of combustion is not always the same, and it becomes more difficult to control the torque actually delivered by the engine. It is said that the operating conditions of the engine are unstable.
If the third injection is made earlier, for example before the 65 [deg] position after the top dead center, the exhaust gas temperature may be too high for the exhaust manifold or for a potential turbine placed upstream of the catalyst.
In another particular embodiment of a regeneration process, the injection scheme set out in FIG. 2C of EP 1 283 342 is carried out. A first injection is made around the top dead center, and a main injection is carried out. during the relaxation phase, after the passage of the top dead center. This process also poses the problem of fuel dilution in the engine oil and instability. In addition, the temperature of the exhaust gas may also be too high.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a regeneration method of a particulate filter antipollution system without risk of dilution of fuel in the engine oil, too high or too low temperature in the exhaust line .
With these objectives in view, the subject of the invention is a method for regenerating a particulate filter fitted to an internal combustion engine, an oxidation catalyst being situated between the engine and the particulate filter, a process in which one carries out for each cylinder a main injection of fuel around the top dead center, and a first post-injection, during a relaxation phase, after the passage of the top dead center. The first post-injection is carried out before the passage of an expansion position of the crankshaft after the top dead center, and in addition a second postinjection after the passage of the detent position.
The second post-injection generates unburnt which will react in the oxidation catalyst. This exothermic reaction raises the temperature of the exhaust gas downstream of the oxidation catalyst and therefore upstream of the particulate filter. However, the temperature upstream of the oxidation catalyst is limited.
In addition, the amount of fuel injected during the second post-injection is reduced compared to the configuration with a single postinjection. The amount of fuel that is deposited on the walls of the cylinder is limited, and the risk of increasing the rate of fuel dilution in the engine oil are reduced.
In particular, the detent position of the crankshaft is 65 [deg] after the top dead center during the relaxation phase. It is found that when fuel injection before the detent position, the fuel is almost completely burned, while during fuel injection after the passage of the expansion position, the combustion is quite incomplete, which limits the temperature rise of the exhaust gas.
Complementarily, during the operating phases of the low-load engine, the amount of air admitted to the engine is restricted.
For example, the beginning and the end of the first post-injection are between 25 [deg] and 65 [deg] after the passage of the top dead center, the beginning and the end of the second post-injection are between 65 [deg] and 150 [deg] after the top dead center, and the start of the main injection is between 20 [deg] before the top dead center and 20 [deg] after the top dead center.
Advantageously, a pre-injection is carried out before the main injection.
The beginning and the end of the pre-injection are for example between 40 [deg] and 25 [deg] before the beginning of the main injection.
The invention will be better understood and other features and advantages will appear on reading the description which follows, the description referring to the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 a schematic view of a motorization system on which s applies the process according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a diagram of the injection according to one embodiment of the invention.
There is shown in Figure 1 a drive system 1 comprising an internal combustion engine 12 and an exhaust gas treatment system 10 of the engine 12. The engine is for example a diesel engine. An exhaust line 14 allows the evacuation of gases G from the engine to the atmosphere. The treatment system 10 is interposed in the line 14 and comprises an oxidation catalyst 20 upstream of a particulate filter 16. The motorization system further comprises an intake manifold 22 for distributing air from admission A to the different cylinders of the engine. A valve 24, for example of the butterfly type, is optionally placed upstream of the intake manifold to control the amount of intake air A.
The exhaust gases G produced by the engine 12 are sent in the line 14. During their passage through the oxidation catalyst 20, the unburnt gases contained in the exhaust gases G, such as hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. carbon, are oxidized in an exothermic reaction. Then, during their passage in the particulate filter 16, any particles are retained by the filter.
Periodically, the particles thus trapped are burned during a regeneration phase. This regeneration requires to occur that the filter reaches a temperature greater than or equal to the combustion temperature of the particles, that is to say about 550 [deg] C. The particulate filter 16 is heated by the exhaust gas G. The oxidation catalyst may optionally be integrated with the particulate filter.
When it is desired to obtain the regeneration of the particulate filter 16, the injection conditions are modified in order to degrade the efficiency of the combustion in the cylinders, and thus to increase the temperature of the exhaust gases G. According to one embodiment of the invention, when one is in a regeneration phase and the engine operates at low load, is made for each cylinder fuel injections according to the diagram of Figure 2.
In this diagram, the abscissa represents the position of the crankshaft relative to the top dead center TDC of the cylinder considered. The ordinate represents the injected fuel flow q. According to the diagram of FIG. 2, a first injection 31, called pre-injection, is carried out before the top dead center TMP, during the compression phase, a second injection 32, called the main injection, is made later, around the top dead center. a third injection 33, referred to as the first post-injection, is performed during the beginning of the expansion phase, before the passage of a position called the expansion position ad, and then a fourth injection 34, called the second post-injection, is performed towards the end of the relaxation phase, after the passage of the relaxation position ad.
The main injection 32 of a quantity q2 of fuel takes place from a position of the crankshaft of a2 which can vary from 20 [deg] before the top dead center TDC to 20 [deg] after the passage of the neutral position high PMH.
The pre-injection 31 of a quantity ql of fuel takes place from a position of the crankshaft of al which may vary from 40 [deg] to 25 [deg] before the start of the main injection 32.
The third injection 33 of a quantity q3 of fuel takes place from a position of the crankshaft a3 which can vary from 25 [deg] to 65 [deg] after the passage of the top dead center TMP.
The fourth injection 34 of a quantity q4 of fuel takes place from a position of the crankshaft a4 which can vary from 65 [deg] to 150 [deg] after the passage of the top dead center TMP.
Examples A comparison was made on a turbocharged supercharged diesel engine between operation without third 33 and fourth injection 34, according to the prior art (cases 1 and 2), and operation with a third 33 and fourth injection 34 according to the invention (case 3).
Table 1
Table 1 gives the results for an operating point at 2000 rpm and a mean effective pressure of 6 bar. It can be seen that for case 1, the temperature upstream of the particulate filter is too low to obtain regeneration. By delaying the main injection as in case 2, the temperature upstream of the particulate filter is sufficient, but the temperature upstream of the turbine is too high. In both cases, the operating conditions are unstable. For case 3, according to the invention, the temperature upstream of the turbine is sufficiently low not to damage the turbine and the exhaust manifold, but sufficiently high upstream of the particulate filter, thanks to the heat energy. generated in the oxidation catalyst 20.In addition, the operating conditions are stable.
In another embodiment, in the event that the engine comprises a valve 24, the intake air is reduced with the aid of the valve during the low load operating phases, at the same time as the fuel is injected four injections as described previously. It can be seen that the temperature conditions are obtained with a still lower quantity of fuel and by improving the stability conditions.
