Abstract

Material to fight oil pollution made of graminaceous (plant) material which has been dehydrated by roasting, and can float on water. It is treated by washing with blown air, ventilation and then roasting, to obtain a blackened color demonstrating complete dehydration without destroying the graminates. The graminaceous material is between 0.1 mm<3> and 10 mm<3> in size and contains a mixture of graminates.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

The present invention relates to a use of grasses, for the prevention and the fight against the pollution of fatty products, and in particular, of hydrocarbons and its crude or processed derivatives, in aqueous medium, such as seas, oceans, rivers, ponds, retention ponds, and many more. It makes it possible both to resolve their dispersion and their adhesion to all natural mineral supports as well as to animals as a whole, in particular animals with feathers or hair. This invention is mixed with pollution, it allows animals which come into contact with pollution not to be covered on their physical part of the body with this so-called pollution. This invention allows pollution to be treated before it finds a final destination on shores or other places often unknown due to climate change, this invention allows pollution to float on the surface in order to be more easily collected.

This present invention makes it possible to protect from pollution because it gathers the pollution in independent soft agglomerate, of what could come into contact with the pollution itself or, although the pollution can cover by effect of the natural forces of nature, such as the ebb or flow of tides, wind and all other climatic conditions.

Oil pollution in a liquid medium is often combated by dispersants or chemicals.

The products used protect the adhesion of pollution on the minerals, only if they are completely covered, before the pollution arrives at the treated place, and if the pollution does not go elsewhere.

The products used do not always allow the flotation of the pollution treated, and moreover do not offer safety for the mineral matter on which this pollution is deposited.

No product protects animals before they come into contact with pollution, only machines exist to clean them after they have been in contact with pollution.

The product according to the invention overcomes this drawback.

It is made up of grasses which have undergone a roasting treatment in order to dehydrate them and are capable of floating in an aqueous medium, and in particular in sea water.

The dimensions of said grasses are preferably between 0.1 and 10 mm3
Their power to collect oil pollution is rapid, it can be accelerated by natural forces such as wind and ebb and flow.

It is easy to use, natural, which gives it the ability to destroy biodegradably. The invention allows the pollution or that it is directed not to adhere to a mineral support, as soon as it arrives, without needing to treat the mineral beforehand. The animals which will come into contact with the pollution would not be covered with the said pollution because its new texture would not adhere to the physical part of the animal in question.

grasses, these are subjected to a global treatment process which consists of: - washing of the grasses by pulsed air under pressure.

- roasting the grasses until a blackish color is obtained at the end of treatment.

- According to a variant not shown, the cooking time is different, depending on the nature and size of said grasses.

The main thing is to achieve as perfect dehydration as possible, without destroying the product.

(Test effectué en laboratoire au CEDRE de Brest) By way of non-limiting example, the product can be used during the grounding of a boat carrying petroleum product. (Test carried out in the laboratory at CEDRE in Brest)
