Abstract

The unit includes an electric motor driving a fan. The motor is controlled by a control card (3) supporting components (5) and arranged adjacent to the motors axis. The card is integrated in a housing (12) having an input opening (18) on a side of the housing and an output opening (14) on the opposite side. The openings are arranged with respect to each other so that the air flow sweeps the components on the card. The card extends along a plane perpendicular to the motor axis and carries the motor brushes (10). The output opening is arranged so that the brushes are swept by the air flow. The card supports a radiator with fins (7) having ends (8) extending above the an edge of the card. The input opening is arranged so that the ends of the fins are swept by the air flow.

 The invention relates to a motor fan, used in particular for cooling the motor of a motor vehicle.
 Motor fans are known comprising an electric motor driving a propeller to generate a flow of air.
 For example, the document FR 2777608 discloses a motor fan in which the motor is controlled by a control card extending adjacent to the axis of the motor in a plane perpendicular to the latter. Part of the card protrudes from the engine and is associated with a finned radiator extending opposite a face of the card facing the propeller. The radiator thus disposed is swept by the air flow generated by the propeller, which dissipates the heat generated by the components carried by the protruding card portion of the engine. However, according to this document, the control card is enclosed in a housing whose radiator constitutes one of the walls so that the components are cooled only by the flow of air flowing on the outer face of the radiator and between the fins which protrude from the housing.
 The invention aims to improve the dissipation of the heat generated by the components. According to the invention, the housing has an inlet opening opening on one side of the housing and an outlet opening opening on an opposite side of the housing, the inlet and outlet openings being arranged with respect to the housing. other for the airflow to sweep the control board components.
 Thus, part of the heat generated by the components is taken directly by the airflow sweeping the components, in addition to the heat dissipated by the radiator.

 A radiator 6 is fixed to the casing 1 and extends opposite the card portion 4 projecting from the casing 1. The radiator 6 comprises fins 7 (visible in FIG. 2) extending radially from the casing 1 and having ends 8 protruding from the flange 17 of the radiator 6.
 The control card 3 furthermore comprises a card portion 9 extending close to the axis of the motor and carrying brushes 10 of the motor which cooperate with the collector 11 of the latter.
 With reference to FIG. 2, the motor-fan comprises a housing 12 attached to the housing 1 to completely cover the control card 3.
 According to the invention, the housing 12 has a bottom 13 pierced with orifices 14 at the level of the brushes 10 and the manifold 11. The housing 12 has a lateral wall 15 conforming to the outer contours of the housing 1 and the card portion 4 protruding from the casing 1, except for the side wall portion 16 which extends around the ends 8 of the fins 7.
 The flange 17 of the radiator 6 and the side wall portion 16 of the housing 12 define an inlet opening 18 through which the ends 8 of the fins 7 extend.
 During the rotation of the helix, the fins 7 are scanned directly by the air flow generated by the helix, as is symbolically represented by the dashed arrows referenced FI. Simultaneously, the flow of air rushes into the inlet opening 18 passing between the ends 8 of the fins 7, scans the components 5, as well as the brushes 10 and the collector 11, then leaves the housing 12 by the orifices 14, as is symbolized in FIG. 2 by dashed arrows referenced F2.

 The flow of air thus channeled into the casing 12 ensures cooling of all the scanned elements, more particularly the brushes 10 and the collector II whose heat can not be picked up and dissipated by the radiator 6 which is too far from these elements .
 The invention is not limited to the particular embodiment that has just been described, but on the contrary intends to cover any variant that falls within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims.
 Although there is illustrated a control card extending perpendicularly to the axis of the motor, the invention extends to a motor fan whose control card is arranged in a radial plane to the motor axis so that adjacent to it.
 Although in the example described here the inlet opening is delimited by the flange 17 of the radiator 6 and the side wall portion 16 of the housing 12, the inlet opening may be more generally constituted by an opening on a side of the housing and having one or more orifices, for example orifices formed by holes in the radiator, the latter then extending to the side wall portion 16. The opening may further be equipped with a protective grid.
 Although the outlet opening of the air flow has been illustrated as being composed of several orifices 14, it will also be possible to provide an outlet opening composed of a single orifice.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS l. Motor fan comprising an electric motor driving a propeller to generate an air flow, the motor being controlled by a control card (3) carrying components (5) and arranged adjacent to the axis of the motor, characterized in that the control board (3) is integrated in a housing (12) having an inlet opening (18) opening on one side of the housing and an outlet opening (14) opening on an opposite side of the housing, the openings of input (18) and output (14) being arranged relative to each other so that the air flow sweeps the components (5) of the control board (3).
