Abstract
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
The present invention relates to a device for filtering a liquid by means of movable materials.
To filter a liquid, many autonomous devices exist which use the passage of the liquid to be filtered through successive layers of loose material. When these operate under the sole influence of natural gravity, the flow of liquid is usually done from top to bottom, so these devices are subject to clogging, not benefiting from a self-cleaning function by reversing the direction circulation of the liquid in the filter layers. On the other hand these same devices are designed in the form of fixed installations; indeed any tilting or inversion movement would compromise the necessary stability of the layers of filtering materials of which they are made.
The device according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks. According to a first characteristic, it in fact comprises a general container provided with a compressive cover freezing the filtering materials in their initial scheduling. According to a second characteristic, the device according to the invention comprises a supply well, arranged vertically over the entire height of the device and the lower part of which has perforations which, in addition to their role as a grid, are intended to distribute the flow of liquid. to be filtered at the base of a filtering assembly operating by virtue of the principle of communicating vessels, subjected to atmospheric pressure. A drain opening, equipped with an opening and closing mechanism, connects the bottom of the well to the outside of the device. In the closed position of this drain orifice, the layers of filtering materials are traversed by a vertical stream of liquid, in the direction from bottom to top, allowing the action of filtering. In the open position of this drain orifice, the layers of filter materials are traversed by a flow of liquid in the opposite direction, caused by a drain by gravity of the complete device. This current entrains the materials previously retained in the filtering action of the materials and leads them to the outside, which ensures self-cleaning of the device.
Cet empilement est organisé selon l'agencement suivant, du bas vers le haut According to a third characteristic, the device according to the invention comprises a filtering assembly, constituted by a stack of layers of materials, confined in the space between the perforated wall of the supply well, the edges and the compressive cover of the general container. . This stacking is organized according to the following arrangement, from bottom to top
<Desc/Clms Page number 2><Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Firstly: a layer of materials having separate elements of sufficient particle size to ensure rapid horizontal diffusion of the liquid to be filtered. This same layer has, moreover, a compressive strength to support the mass of the upper layers as well as the additional constraints which may be imposed by a particular mode of use, handling or transport of the device.
Secondly: a separation filter membrane which, according to certain particular manufacturing and operating modes, has a quality of macro, micro or ultra filtration. Thirdly: a layer of filtering materials made up of one or more beds of fine aggregates whose grain size, porosity, technical characteristics as well as the number and thickness can vary according to the desired performance and according to known criteria.

Fifth: an upper layer made up of separate elements having a particle size sufficient to ensure a storage function of the filtered liquid in its interstices. In addition, since this layer can be subjected to pressure constraints during overturning tilting maneuvers or the application of a compressive cover to the device, its constituent elements are resistant to these constraints.
Sixth: the upper layer previously described is traversed by a drain inserted in its thickness and whose function is to extract the filtered liquid contained in this layer and to direct it towards the outside of the device by crossing the wall of the general container. The drain opening to the outside is provided with an opening and closing mechanism.
Seventh: in the highest part of the device and in its outer wall a vent is made.

The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention With reference to this drawing, the device comprises a general container (1) provided with a transport handle (2), covered with a compressive cover (3) leaving the upper orifice of the well free supply (4).
The base of the supply well has perforations (S) for use as a grid and for distributing the flow of liquid to be filtered in the lower part of the filter assembly (6) consisting of a stack of successive layers of loose material.
The first layer of materials (starting from the bottom), consisting of expanded clay balls, distributes the flow horizontally over the entire surface of the next layer, separated by a "geotextile" canvas, and consisting of three bunk beds: sand river, activated charcoal, river sand. A "geotextile" canvas separates this previous layer from the next and last, consisting of expanded polystyrene ball whose elasticity allows by compression under the effect of the cover (3), to freeze the different layers of loose material in their initial ordering while maintaining sufficient interstitial volume.
After having passed through these different layers of materials by virtue of the principle of communicating vessels subjected to atmospheric pressure, the raw water has got rid of its pollution, trapped in the interstices and porosities of the filter assembly.
The filtered water is extracted from the last layer by a drain (7) provided at its end with an opening and closing device (8).
Un orifice d'évent (9) permet le libre passage de l'air dans le dispositif, et donc, soumet la circulation des liquides à l'influence de la pression atmosphérique A vent opening (9) allows the free passage of air in the device, and therefore, subjects the circulation of liquids to the influence of atmospheric pressure
<Desc/Clms Page number 4><Desc / Clms Page number 4>
An orifice (10) provided with an opening and closing device, located in the lower part of the general container at the base of the supply well allows normal operation of the filter (at atmospheric pressure), if it is closed, and total emptying of the device (by gravity), if it is open. In addition, emptying results in self-cleaning of the filter assembly by establishing a reverse circulation current of the liquid.
By way of example, without limitation, the general container of the device will have a capacity of 12 liters; an assembly of this size can continuously deliver 10 liters of filtered water per hour.
In this portable configuration, the device according to the invention is particularly intended to improve the sanitary quality of the water consumed by populations in difficulty following events depriving them of a secure supply of drinking water.
