Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to scented solutions and / or perfumes, resistant to aging and a process for the manufacture of said solutions.
The present invention provides an original solution to a technical problem, familiar to those skilled in the perfumery industry, that of the aging of scented and / or perfuming solutions, such as eau de toilette, colognes, perfumes, perfume waters, scented oils, deodorants ... This list is by no means exhaustive. In fact, the field of the invention is that of any solution based on a solvent, which contains aromatic raw materials, natural and / or synthetic (often called essential oils) in solution in said solvent. This solvent is moreover likely to contain various types of additives such as dyes, ultraviolet filters, antioxidants, deodorant active agents, etc. This solvent generally consists of an alcoholic or hydro-alcoholic solvent, very often in the form of dyestuffs. ethanol or a water-ethanol mixture.
The solutions in question are said to be scented and / or fragrant insofar as they are used to cover the odor of the solutions themselves and / or for the odor they confer on the user.
Those skilled in the art know that the aging of these solutions is largely due to the oxidation of the aromatic raw materials they contain. To overcome this harmful oxidation, it has been proposed, according to the prior art - on the one hand, to include in the composition of said solutions, antioxidants. This has already been mentioned above; - On the other hand, to avoid, during the manufacture and storage of said solutions, their contact with air (and therefore oxygen).
Said manufacture generally comprises one or more phases of mixing aromatic raw materials, the dissolution of said aromatic raw materials in the intervening solvent, the maceration of the mixture thus obtained, the frosting thereof (to precipitate the insolubles), its filtration and finally its conditioning (usually, its setting in flasks). The additives of the formula may be incorporated into the solution at one and / or the other of each of these successive steps.
Two stages of said manufacture are particularly oxidizing: the maceration which may last several weeks and the storage of the filtered solutions, which storage is generally carried out in tanks, withdrawn in one or more times. During these two steps, the solution is in prolonged contact with air, said air supernatant said solution. Some producers have therefore already recommended avoiding this contact, solution / gaseous oxygen phase, at least during said two stages, substituting for air a neutral gas (with respect to oxidation problems), such as nitrogen.
The antioxidants are added, advantageously, upstream of said two "oxidizing" stages.
These two types of precautions - the intervention of antioxidants in the composition of scented and / or perfuming solutions and that of a neutral gas, instead of supernatant air, during the manufacture of said solutions - even taken together have not made it possible to effectively counteract the aging phenomenon of said solutions; a phenomenon all the more critical that the conditions of manufacture and / or storage and / or use of said solutions are severe. We think in particular of the storage and use of these solutions in hot countries ...
To date, it is therefore not brought really satisfactory solutions to the technical problem of aging scented solutions and / or perfumes, a problem yet known for many, many years.
Such a solution, which is really satisfactory, constitutes the basis of the present invention. According to its first object, the present invention thus relates to solutions or compositions, scented and / or fragrant, resistant to aging. Said solutions are of the type of those of the prior art insofar as they comprise aromatic raw materials in solution in a solvent and where they may comprise, in addition to said raw materials and said solvent, various types of additives. They are original in that their oxygen content is less than or equal to 10 ppm, advantageously less than or equal to 5 ppm, preferably less than or equal to 1 ppm. Typically, said solutions of the invention are deoxygenated; the solutions of the prior art conventionally containing between 30 and 100 ppm of oxygen.
According to said prior art, despite the knowledge of the technical problem set out above, it has never been suggested to rid the scented and / or perfuming solutions of dissolved oxygen within them. One can think that a real prejudice existed against the deoxygenation of solutions of this type, deoxygenation a priori ineluctably responsible for an alteration of their olfactory properties ... The solutions of the invention, that we can therefore qualify deoxygenated solutions, are of course advantageously packaged in suitable containers, which guarantee their deoxygenated nature.
In the context of its first object, the present invention also relates to the precursor material of said scented and / or perfuming solutions, namely solvent mixtures / aromatic raw materials, intended to generate after said maceration said solutions. Said -solvent mixtures containing aromatic raw materials- are also characterized by a low content of dissolved oxygen: a content of less than or equal to 10 ppm, advantageously less than or equal to 5 ppm, preferably less than or equal to 1 ppm.
Obviously, the lower the dissolved oxygen content of said precursor mixtures and solutions (end products), the better the aging resistance of said solutions. It should be noted, however, that it may be wise to deliberately keep a few ppm of dissolved oxygen in said mixtures and solutions, mainly in said mixtures, since, in particular, the maceration may need these few ppm of oxygen to generate the expected olfactory result ...
With reference to said solutions of the invention and the precursor mixtures of said solutions, it is further possible to specify the following. They are, as indicated, based on a solvent, solvent suitable for the aromatic raw materials in question. Said solvent is advantageously an alcoholic or hydro-alcoholic solvent. Preferably, it consists of ethanol or a water-ethanol mixture. The originality of the solutions of the invention does not come from the nature of said solvent but from their low content of dissolved oxygen.
The perfumed and / or perfuming solutions of the invention are therefore deoxygenated solutions compared to the solutions of the prior art. Despite their low content of dissolved oxygen, they have interesting olfactory properties and thanks to their low dissolved oxygen content, they are much more resistant to aging than said solutions of the prior art.
According to its second object, the present invention relates to the manufacture of such perfumed and / or fragrant deoxygenated solutions. Said manufacture comprises obtaining and handling a liquid phase containing aromatic raw materials in a solvent, surmounted by a gaseous phase. In fact, said manufacture may quite be of the type used for the manufacture of scented and / or perfuming solutions of the prior art but, typically, the liquid phase (the solvent containing the aromatic raw materials). intervener has a low oxygen content (less than or equal to 10 ppm, advantageously less than or equal to 5 ppm, preferably less than or equal to 1 ppm) and the gas phase, surmounting said liquid phase, consists of a neutral gas or a mixture of neutral gases. Typically, said process is carried out in the absence of oxygen, oxygen gas and dissolved oxygen.
Apart from this characteristic, which is essential for the purposes of the invention, the method of the invention is therefore a priori of the type of that of the prior art, the main steps of which have been recalled in the introduction of the present text; steps of constitution of the aromatic raw materials used, dissolution of said raw materials in a solvent, maceration of the mixture obtained, its icing, its filtration or even its packaging. Thus, the process of the invention is advantageously in the implementation of these different successive stages with a deoxygenated liquid phase and a neutral gas phase. Said gas phase is neutral with respect to oxidation phenomena. It may especially consist of an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon or a mixture of inert gases. Said inert gas or mixture of inert gas may contain carbon dioxide. Said carbon dioxide can advantageously intervene for the stability of the solutions in question (by acting on their pH).
Said liquid phase is deoxygenated. According to a first variant, it is obtained from a deoxygenated solvent: by mixing the aromatic raw materials in such a solvent, previously deoxygenated. According to a second variant, it is obtained by mixing said aromatic raw materials in a solvent, the resulting mixture then being deoxygenated.
The deoxygenation carried out on the solvent or (or and) the solvent / aromatic raw materials mixture is conventionally, generally by displacement, by means of a neutral gas or a mixture of neutral gases, of the initially dissolved oxygen. Such displacement is often obtained by bubbling (or bubbling, from dip tubes or bottom tails, in particular) within the liquid phase concerned of said neutral gas or mixture of neutral gases.
Said deoxygenation is generally carried out in a controlled manner, with monitoring, using an oximeter, of the dissolved oxygen concentration of the solutions concerned. It is preferred to use the first of these variants, namely the implementation of the deoxygenation of the solvent, upstream of its mixture with the aromatic raw materials. In fact, according to the second of said variants, the mixture can be modified olfactorily by involving the neutral gas or the mixture of neutral gases therein.
For the implementation of the first of these variants, it is advantageously deoxygen the solvent involved in the site of its use on the site of manufacture of perfume and / or perfume solutions. However, it is in no way excluded to use a solvent, delivered deoxygenated, under protection of neutral gas (for example, ethanol recovered at the distillation column outlet).
Incidentally, it is noted here that if water is involved in the composition of said solvent, it may have been deoxygenated upstream, either by bubbling neutral gas (s) within it, or by heating or by washing against a stream of said water divided by a neutral gas or a mixture of neutral gases.
Whatever the mode of obtaining the deoxygenated liquid phase, it is usually left to macerate a certain time. In the context of the process of the invention, the maceration is carried out, with said liquid phase, surmounted by an inert gaseous phase. In the same way, if said liquid phase is stored, it is in an inert gaseous phase. This is obviously not to redissolve, during said maceration and / or during said storage, oxygen in said deoxygenated liquid phase.
The perfumed and / or perfuming solutions of the invention, low oxygen content liquid phases surmounted by an inert gaseous phase, are, after their obtaining and possible storage, generally packaged in bottles, cans or other types of containers.
To minimize or even avoid the dissolution of oxygen within them, it is strongly recommended to package them in containers previously filled with neutral gas (s). For this pre-filling, it was possible to inject the said gas into said containers and / or to introduce liquefied gas which vaporizes in situ. It is possible to envisage carrying out this conditioning operation in a controlled, inert atmosphere, for example in a glove box. This is not, however, in practice essential. In any case, it is recommended to close the said containers as quickly as possible, the faster the surrounding atmosphere is oxidizing. In the same vein, it is strongly recommended to implement a quality sealing, gas-tight, capable of preventing any uptake of oxygen, by the conditioned liquid, through the jointing.
Incidentally, it is recalled here that, for safety reasons, the perfumed and / or perfuming solutions never fulfill their packaging 100%. Thus, in the containers filled with the perfumed and / or perfuming solutions of the invention, there is always, in addition to said deoxygenated solutions, at least a few percent by volume of neutral gas (in principle at least 3% by weight). volume).
The method of the invention, as described above, is therefore likely to involve a neutral gas or a mixture of neutral gases at different stages - to deoxygen upstream of the solvent mixture / aromatic raw materials, said solvent; and / or - to deoxygenate said solvent mixture / aromatic raw materials, as well as - to constitute the gaseous phase surmounting the deoxygenated liquid phase during treatment (ie during the maceration, icing, filtration, or even storage of said liquid phase); and for conditioning said deoxygenated liquid phase. Advantageously, it intervenes during these steps the same neutral gas or mixture of neutral gases. Nitrogen and argon have already been mentioned, in no way limiting, as such neutral gases. Incidentally recall here that said neutral gas or mixture of neutral gases is likely to contain carbon dioxide. Particularly preferred in the context of the invention, the intervention of nitrogen. It is now proposed to illustrate the invention currently claimed by the examples below. Example 1 </ U> (prior art) Distilled ethanol (water-ethanol azeotropic mixture containing about 96% by volume of ethanol) containing 40 ppm of oxygen (which represents approximately 10 kPa) is available. partial pressure of oxygen); - Of three different scented compositions, respectively referenced + 449: scented composition with a top note dominated by fragile natural bergamot; + 427: fragrant composition with a fragile heart note, flowery without hesperides; + 448: perfume composition with a rather stable top note, of the stabilized bergamot type.
Control flasks are prepared by ambient air by mixing 10% by volume of each of said three scented compositions above with 90% by volume of said distilled ethanol not deoxygenated at 40 ppm oxygen. Said bottles are sealed by screwing jointed. They are kept, at room temperature, on the desk of one of the perfumers evaluators. Example 2 </ U> (Invention) In a glove box placed under a controlled atmosphere of nitrogen, 500 ml of distilled ethanol are deoxygenated according to Example 1. Deoxygenation is carried out by sparging with nitrogen. for 1 h at a flow rate of 1 l / min. The final oxygen content of the 500 ml of ethanol thus deoxygenated is less than 1 ppm.
In the same glove box, mixtures of 10% by volume of each of the three scented compositions of Example 1 are made with 90% by volume of ethanol at less than 1 ppm of dissolved oxygen.
With these mixtures, flasks of 10 ml to three quarters are filled in said glove box; some being plugged by screw-jointed capsules, the others by crimped capsules.
The series of these vials of the invention, screwed and crimped, are put in an oven at 40 C (for accelerated aging). Olfactory evaluations at one month show little discernible differences.
The two-month evaluations show the better stability of the crimped vials compared to the screwed vials, and the better stability of said screwed vials compared to control vials.
The three-month and four-month evaluations show even greater differences: the crimped bottles are all much better than the control bottles and better than the screwed bottles. Example 3 </ U> (Invention) The procedure is as in Example 2, in a glove box, under a nitrogen atmosphere, but the mixtures, at 10% by volume of the perfume compositions and 90% by volume of deoxygenated ethanol, are left to maceration, 1 month, in crimped bottles. They are, at the end of that month, put one night, in the refrigerator, at 4 C (to undergo a frosting). Reintroduced into the glove box, at the end of this icing, they are filtered and packaged in 10 ml bottles crimped.
The same operation (with maceration and icing) is carried out with control vials (according to Example 1).
Comparative evaluations of perfumers are even more to the advantage of the solutions of the invention.
