Abstract

A new antioxidant plant extract (A) is prepared from the placenta (interior of the pericarp that contains the seeds) of fresh, fleshy fruits such as berries. An Independent claim is also included for a method for producing (A).

COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME.

  Technical Field The invention relates to an extract of fruit placenta, in particular of melon (cucumis melo), the process for its preparation, the cosmetic, dietetic or

  pharmaceuticals containing the extract.

  PRIOR ART Fruits contain substances and compounds of interest for applications other than for human consumption as in cosmetic formulation, in dietetics in human and animal pharmacy. Vitamins are found in fruits,

  sugars, trace elements, proteins, enzymes.

  To be of interest for the fields mentioned, it is necessary to extract these compounds and

  often concentrate them, which is not often practical or economical.

  Among the fruits are the chamus fruits with the berries. Among the berries those whose pericarp contains seeds or seeds, such as cucurbits, citrus fruits,

apples, tomatoes.

  In cucurbits, researchers have found industrially usable molecules, such as cucumisin, ascorbate oxidase. From 1987 the presence of superoxide dismutase (SOD) is described in citrulus vulgaris, or coloquinte. Catalase

  is also present in these fruits.

  Recent work 1997, at the University of Granada (Spain) by JM Palma and LA

  Delrio were conducted on SOD and its purification in the cotyledons of watermelons.

  In this case the material is too expensive for industrial applications.

  The main disadvantage of concentrating these substances from fruit is the use

  of food products, which is a waste.

  The invention consists in obtaining an extract using what in agronomy is called the placenta of fruits. The placenta is what inside the pericarp contains the seeds. Apart from the advantage that these placentas are often waste in the food industry therefore very inexpensive compared to the whole fruit, they have unexpectedly proved during the experiments made for the invention generally richer in sought-after substances than the rest of the fruit, this is particularly the case for melons. The applicant's research objective focused more particularly on

  the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of these new extracts.

  Among these substances which are more particularly sought after, enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase and peroxidase, saponins, serines

proteases, anti proteases.

  The extraction according to the invention is carried out from fresh, ripe plant material. A

  another arrangement of the invention consists in not using solvents other than water.

  The Applicant has developed its invention with melon placentas, and has

  checked its interest on other materials such as with tomato placentas.

  Thus after having separated the placental part of the fruit, the placental juice to which a cosmetic or food preservative is added is extracted by centrifugation or pressing. In the case where the extraction operations take place in less than 24 hours and at a temperature below 6 C, the preservatives are useless at this stage. The residue remaining after pressing the fruit placentas contains the seeds or seeds. These seeds or seeds are separated by sieving the pellet after drying it. They can be washed with ethanol.   Generally the final extract obtained contains from 10 to 30 grams of dry extract.

  The applications sought by the invention are mainly due to the properties

  alone or in combination with superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase.

  From 15 kilograms of this placental material and by centrifugation, 8 liters of juice are recovered, which is filtered.
