ている他、植物中でもホウレンソウ、リョクトウ、コム
ギ胚芽、サイトウ等に存在が確認されているが、これま
でキュウリ果実中のSODに関する報告は全くなされて

の有効成分について、しみ、そばかす、肌荒れなど、皮
膚に対する有効性を指標として鋭意研究の結果、複数の
有効成分の存在を確認したが、その中でSODが重要な
成分の一つであることを発見した。SODは他の有効成
分と協調し、過酸化詣質産生の主原因となるスーパーオ
キシド・ラジカルを消去し活性酸素の毒性を強く抑制す
ることにより、皮膚組織の改善を図るものと考えられる
。また、SODはその含量の測定が極めて容易でありキ
ュウカンバエキスの品質評価の指標として有用であるこ
とが明らかとなった。更にSODが熱、化学処理等に不
安定であることから、キュウリ果実より天然のままの状
態で抽出されていることの証明としても価値のある評価
法である。しかしながら、現在市販されているキュウカ
ンバエキス中のSOD含量を測定したところ、10単位
/ m 1以上のSODを含むキュウカンバエキスは皆
無であり、このことは従来のキュウカンバエキスの製造
にあたりSODは全く考慮されず、製造工程中何らかの
原因で失活していたものと考えられた。そこで、本発明
者らは更に研究を進めた結果、SODを高濃度に含有し
高い有効性を有するキュウカンバエキスの製法を発明す

エン酸ナトリウムを最終濃度0.2〜2.0%に添加す
ることにより、経時変化のなく、安定でかつSODを高
濃度に含有するキュウカンバエキスを製することができ
る。かくして得られたキュウカンバエキスは更にパラベ
ン等の防腐剤を添加、除菌濾過し実際の使用に供される

て従来公知の方法よりも非常に高濃度にSODを含有し
安定なキュウカンバエキスを安価かつ簡便に供給するこ
