Abstract

This is a flush-mounting box comprising a box body (11), which forms a housing (12), and a foot (13), which, laterally extending the box body (11), also forms a housing (14). According to the invention, the foot (13) constitutes a separate part of the box body (1 1), and, over at least part of its length from that of its ends by which it is intended to be abutting this box body (1 1), it is segmented longitudinally into successive sections (26), with, associated with each of these sections (26), engagement means (27), which, in cooperation with engagement means (28) provided in a complementary manner in correspondence on the box body (11), in at least one place thereof, are able to allow its attachment to the latter. Application, in particular, to devices electric.

i "Recessed box with box body and foot extending laterally

  the box body, in particular for an electrical appliance "The present invention relates generally to flush-mounting boxes of the type used for the installation of any appliance, and in particular of any appliance electric, within any support, such as a wall or partition, for example those of these flush-mounting boxes which, on the one hand, have a box body, which forms a clean housing upon receipt of the mechanism of such an apparatus, and, on the other hand, a foot, which, laterally extending the box body, forms a housing suitable for receiving the electrical conductors or other conduits necessary for the

serving this device.

  These flush-mounting boxes usually also include a

  cover able to cover the whole of their box body and their base.

  Such a flush-mounting box is notably described in the

  i 5 European patent published under No. 0 440 556.

  In this European patent, the box body and the foot are in one piece with one another, the molding assembly forming a single piece. Once the installation of such a recess box in the support that it must equip has been made, a chute is located to its right on this support, transversely with respect to its foot, counting from the lower part of that here, for the arrival of the electrical conductors or other necessary conduits, this chute coming locally to replace the cover, and

  the latter being cut accordingly according to the width of this chute.

  This solution has given and can still give satisfaction.

  However, it has the disadvantage that, the box body intervening by construction at a given distance from the lower part of the foot, the apparatus which is housed therein is more or less close to the upper part of the chute according to the width of that -this, to the detriment, sometimes, of the aesthetics, especially when, according to a possible implementation, the remaining part of the

cover remains visible.

  In American patent No 1 774 934, and it is substantially the same in the international patent application published under No W091 / 12461, there has been proposed a recessing box whose box body is adjustable in height relative to at the foot, a sliding mounting being

  provided for this purpose between this box body and this foot.

  But, in practice, the foot is then reduced to a simple support console, and it is therefore not able to serve as housing for any

  electrical conductors or any other conduits.

  The present invention generally relates to a provision allowing very simple adjustment in height of the box body relative to the foot even when this foot forms such a

  More specifically, it relates to a flush-mounting box, in particular for an electrical appliance, of the kind comprising a box body, which forms a housing suitable for receiving the mechanism of such a device, and a foot which, extending laterally the box body, forms a clean housing for the reception of electrical conductors or other conduits necessary for the service of this device, this installation box being generally characterized in that the foot constitutes a separate part of the body of box, and in that, over at least part of its length from that of its ends by which it is intended to be abutted to this box body, it is segmented longitudinally into successive sections, with, associated with each of these sections, engagement means which, in cooperation with engagement means provided in a complementary manner in correspondence on the box body, in at least

  a place thereof, are capable of allowing its attachment to the latter.

  Thus, according to the desired installation height for the device concerned, and therefore for the box body, it suffices to cut the foot accordingly, that is to say to eliminate from this foot, from one or more of its upper part

its sections.

  Indeed, the first of the sections of the foot remaining at the top of the latter comprises, identically, like all the others, the means of engagement necessary for the attachment of this foot to the box body. According to a particular, and preferred, embodiment, the engagement means associated with each of the sections of the foot comprise a fitting portion, the engagement means provided on the box body correspondingly comprising a fitting portion conformed to the image of

that of these sections.

  For example, according to an embodiment, also particular, and preferred, of the invention, the nesting portion thus presented by each of the sections of the foot is formed by a fraction, at least, and, preferably, by all, of the part of this section which belongs to the bottom of the foot, resulting for example very simply from the configuration

even from this background.

  According to a development of this arrangement, the interlocking portion of each of the sections of the foot, and, therefore, of the part

  corresponding from the bottom of it, forms a half-ring.

  It follows, overall, that, at least by its bottom, the foot of the flush-mounting box according to the invention has, in this embodiment, the general configuration of a corrugated half-tube, in the manner of conduits corrugated hoses commonly used for housing and protection

electrical conductors.

  This configuration in the form of a half-ringed tube of the foot advantageously facilitates the cutting of the latter, avoiding that, to do this, it

  is provided, transversely, from place to place, in the usual way, thereon

  ci, any areas of least resistance.

  It is therefore favorable to the rigidity of this foot, which is particularly appreciable, in particular when this foot must be embedded

in a wall.

  The configuration of the corrugated half-tube of the foot also advantageously avoids the molding difficulties which would otherwise have been raised if, for the desired cutting, provision had been made,

  usual way, on this foot, areas of least resistance.

  This configuration in a corrugated half-tube also advantageously inclines to use a cutting tool for this cutting, because it quite naturally allows easy guiding of this cutting tool, flush with each section, which is favorable for obtaining a clear cut

  relatively difficult to obtain otherwise.

  The configuration of the corrugated half-tube of the foot of the embedding box according to the invention also has the advantage of authorizing the use of a conventional grooving tool, which any installer already has, for the realization of the

  groove necessary to embed this foot in the support to be fitted.

  When this support is, for example, a hollow partition, the tools necessary for the installation of the assembly in such a support are then advantageously reduced to such a conventional grooving tool and to a hole saw, itself conventional, since, according to the invention, the box body comes

  fit directly into the foot.

  This implementation is therefore particularly easy to achieve.

  The configuration of the ringed half-tube of the foot can, finally, advantageously be used to connect, if desired, to this foot, by simple interlocking therein, a flexible ringed conduit of the same type, for housing the electrical conductors or other necessary ducts between the chute and this foot, especially when the device concerned must be

  located at a relatively great distance from this chute.

  Thus produced with such an intermediate corrugated flexible duct, an installation of this type advantageously provides a good compromise between a recessed installation of the conventional type, which requires significant work and also requires having to redo the surface decoration of the support concerned, and a projecting installation, also of conventional type, which generally requires a relatively large set for its production.

  The flush-mounting box 10 according to the invention shown in these figures is intended to allow, in a manner known per se, the installation of any device, and, in particular, of any electrical device, not shown, within even of any support, also not shown,

  such as for example a wall or a partition.

  It comprises, overall, in a manner known per se, on the one hand, a box body 1 1, which forms a housing 12 suitable for receiving the mechanism of the device concerned, and, on the other hand, a foot 13 , which, extending laterally the box body 11, forms, itself, a housing 14 suitable for receiving electrical conductors or other conduits, not

  shown, necessary to serve this aircraft.

  The housing 12 of the box body 1 1 and the housing 14 of the foot 13 are both open in the same direction, and, according to modalities

  described in more detail later, they communicate with each other.

  In the embodiment shown, the box body 11 has a bottom 15, which, apart from an external stiffening rib, is substantially flat, and a side wall 16, which, generally cylindrical, with a quadrangular circular section with widely rounded corners, extends

  substantially perpendicular to the bottom 15.

  The foot 13 is abutted to the box body 1 1 by one of the sides 18 of the

  side wall 16 thereof, in the immediate vicinity of its outlet.

  In the embodiment shown, it extends substantially perpendicular to this panel 18, but it is not always necessarily so.

  Generally in the form of a trough, or gutter, the foot 13 itself

  even a bottom 19, and, along the edges thereof, two longitudinal walls

  , which, parallel to each other, extend over its entire length.

  In the embodiment shown, the foot 13 is closed by a transverse end wall 22 at its end opposite the box body 11, and this transverse end wall 22 extends laterally, and

  on both sides, by fixing wings 23.

  If desired, and as will be described later with reference to FIGS. 15 and 16, it can be added to the installation box 10 thus formed, a cover 25 capable of covering the assembly, that is to say say fit to

  cover the box body 1 1 as well as the foot 13.

  The foregoing provisions are well known in themselves, at least in principle, in particular by European Patent No. 0 440 556 already mentioned above, and, not specifically falling under the present

  invention, they will not be described in more detail here.

  Only the elements of the installation box 10 will be described below.

  According to the embodiment shown, the engagement means 27 associated with each of the sections 26 of the foot 13 comprise a fitting portion 29, the engagement means 28 provided on the box body 11 comprising, as a corollary, a portion d 'fitting 30 conforming to the image of that 29 of these sections 26 and thus able to cooperate in

interlocking with the latter.

  More specifically, in this embodiment, the nesting portion 29 of each of the sections 26 of the foot 13 is formed by at least a fraction, and preferably, as shown, by all, of

  the part of this section 26 which belongs to the bottom 19 of this foot 13.

  In the embodiment shown, the fitting portion 29

  of each of the sections 26 of the foot 13 forms a half-ring.

  In other words, it spans 180 0.

  Preferably, and this is the case in the embodiment shown, this interlocking portion 29 has, in its plane, that is to say in a plane perpendicular to the direction of elongation of the foot 13, a

semicircular outline.

  In the embodiment shown, the cross section of the internal surface of the fitting portion 29 of each of the sections 26 of the foot 13, that is to say the section of this fitting portion 29 in a parallel plane in the direction of elongation of this foot 13, is generally convex.

  For example, and as shown, it is semicircular.

  In the embodiment shown, the sections 26 of the foot 13 are separated two by two by grooves 32 whose internal surface has a

  It follows from the above that, in the embodiment shown, the foot 13 has, by its bottom 19, the general configuration of a

corrugated half-tube.

  It also follows from the above that the fitting portion 30 presented by the box body 11 also forms a half-ring, which is in negative what the half-ring that the portion forms represents in positive.

  In the embodiment shown, the engagement means 27 associated with each of the sections 26 of the foot 13 also include two snap grooves 34, which, each respectively, extend longitudinally on either side of such a section 26, and the engagement means 28 provided on the box body 11 comprise, in correspondence, two latching wings 35 suitable for each coming

  respectively engaged with such snap grooves 34.

  Preferably, and this is the case in the embodiment shown, each of the latching grooves 34 of the foot 13 is preceded

an engagement chamfer 36.

  In practice, in the embodiment shown, the engagement chamfers 36 thus associated with the latching grooves 34 belong, each respectively, to bosses 37, in the form of a quarter of an olive, which form

  protruding inwards on the longitudinal walls 20.

  For each of the sections 26 of the foot 13, there is thus, at the right of the ends of the fitting portion 29 of such a section 26, at a distance from

these ends, two bosses 37.

  As a corollary, the latching wings 35 of the box body 11 frame its interlocking portion 30, each being respectively

  arranged at the ends thereof.

  In practice, these snap-fit wings 35 are coplanar, and they extend perpendicular to the face 18 of the side wall 16 of the body of

  box 11 to which the foot 13 must be butted.

  In the embodiment shown, the engagement means 28 provided on the box body 11 belong to an appendage 39, which projects outwards on the side wall 16 of this box body 11, and, more precisely, on the side 18 of this side wall 16 to which the

foot 13.

  In the embodiment shown, this appendix 39 also has, laterally, projecting from an axial leg 40, beyond the engagement means 28 which it comprises, a set of transverse fins 41 which define, between they, on either side of the axial leg 40, two grooves

42.

  For the communication of the housing 14 of the foot 13 with the housing 12 of the box body 11, the flap 18 of the side wall 16 of this box body 11

  to which this foot 13 abuts is indented.

  In the embodiment shown, two notches 43 are

provided for this purpose.

  They frame one of the barrels 44 which also comprises the body of

  box 11 for fixing by screwing the mechanism of the device concerned.

  The fitting portion 30 of the box body 11 is established at the edge of these notches 43, and the same is true of its wings

latching 35.

  Finally, in the embodiment shown, the foot 13 comprises, longitudinally, on either side of its successive sections 26, beyond its longitudinal walls 20, for reasons which will appear later,

two drop sides 46.

  In the embodiment shown, these sides 46 are fragmented into fingers 47, and these protrude from place to place on returns 48 that the longitudinal walls 20 have back to back at right angles

outwards.

  As is easy to understand, the foot 13 can be cut off on demand from its upper part, that is to say from its end

  opposite to that having a transverse end wall 22.

  Preferably, this cutting is done using a cutting tool, for example a knife, and, to guide this cutting tool, advantage is taken of the grooves that form by itself

  externally the fitting portion 29 of the sections 26.

  Each time, the number of sections 26 necessary for

  desired height adjustment for the can body 11.

  Then, just bring back, by its appendix 39, this box body

  11 on foot 13 at the top of the latter.

  Each time, the engagement means 28 that the gearbox body 11 has for this purpose come into contact with the engagement means 27 of the end section 26 of the foot 13, the fitting portion 30 of the gearbox body 11 s 'fitting with the fitting portion 29 of this section 26, while the latching wings 35 of the box body 11 come in

  Once the engagement means 28 of the box body 11 thus engaged with the engagement means 27 of the terminal section 26 of the foot 13, this

  Of course, this joining can take place prior to the implementation of the mounting box 10, or even during this implementation.

  It is also advantageously disengageable.

  In other words, a separation of the can body 11 from the

foot 13 is possible if desired.

  In the embodiment shown, and in a manner known per se, the cover 25 possibly used comprises, in continuity with each other, two parts, namely a part 50, the outline of which is in the image that of the outlet of the box body 11, and a part 51 whose contour is

  the image of that of the outlet of the foot 13.

  On its part 50, the cover 25 detachably carries at least one partition 52, which, according to methods described in more detail

  subsequently, is able to be added locally to the foot 13 if desired.

  For example, and as shown, two partitions 52 are thus provided

  detachably on this part 50 of the cover 25.

  Along the longitudinal edges of its part 51, the cover 25 carries, at an angle, flanges 53, by which it is able to fit between the

drop sides 46 of foot 13.

  Finally, at the end of this part 51, the cover 25 has a transverse wall 54. As described in European patent No. 0 440 556 already mentioned

  above, the part 51 of the cover 25 is breakable.

  It has, for this purpose, transversely, from place to place, hollow

  on its internal surface, grooves 55, FIG. 16.

  It is thus possible to adjust its length according to the cutting

applied to foot 13.

  In the embodiment shown, the partitions 52 that the cover 25 carries on its part 50 are only attached from place to place at

  this, by zones of least resistance 56.

  In addition, in this embodiment, each of these partitions 52 has two sides 52A, 52B, which form a dihedral between them, and one of which, at least, has a width sufficient to be able to extend locally from one to the other of the longitudinal edges of the foot 13, and, more precisely, from one to the other of the longitudinal walls 20 of this foot 13, while being engaged, by its edge, with the latching grooves 34 provided along these longitudinal edges. In practice, the two sides 52A, 52B of the partitions 52 have the same

  width, and the dihedral they form is a right dihedral.

  When the associated chute has, longitudinally, at least one partition, it is thus possible to relate, on the part of the foot 13 present between the two successive base sections of this chute, to the right of this partition, one of the partitions 52 detachably provided for this purpose on the cover 25, as shown diagrammatically in broken lines in FIG. 12, to ensure all the desirable continuity for

the corresponding separation.

  Preferably, and this is the case in the embodiment shown, at least one of the sections 52A, 52B of the partitions 52 carried by the cover 25, and, in practice, each of these has, transversely, space in place, grooves 58, for its possible cutting in length. It is thus possible to adapt to the height of the chute that of these sections 52A, 52B which extends in continuity with the partition of the latter. For the rest, the provisions are of the type described in the

European patent No 0 440 556.

  If desired, the grooves 42 presented in appendix 39 of the box body 1 1 can be used, first, for the support, during transport, of the screws to be used for fixing, to this body of box 11, of the mechanism of the apparatus concerned, then, during assembly, for the timing of the electrical conductors ensuring the service of this apparatus when it is

an electrical appliance. According to an alternative embodiment not shown, the box body 1 1

  comprises an appendage 39, and therefore engagement means 28, with fitting portion 30 and snap-on wings 35, in at least two separate places, and, for example, on at least two separate sides 18 of its wall

lateral 16.

  Independently of the foot 13 normally abutted to such a box body 11, it is then possible to connect it to another box body 11 of

  same type using another foot 13 duly cut accordingly.

  The present invention is moreover not limited to the embodiment

  described and shown, but includes any variant.

Claims (25)

  1. Built-in box, in particular for an electrical appliance, of the type comprising a box body (11), which forms a housing (12) suitable for receiving the mechanism of such an appliance, and a foot (13), which , extending laterally the box body 11, forms a housing (14) suitable for receiving the electrical conductors or other conduits necessary for serving this apparatus, characterized in that the foot (13) constitutes a separate part from the box body (11), and in that, over at least part of its length from that of its ends by which it is intended to be abutted to this box body (11), it is segmented longitudinally into sections (26) successive, with, associated with each of these sections (26), engagement means (27), which, in cooperation with engagement means (28) provided in a complementary manner in correspondence on the box body (11) , in at least one place thereof, are suitable for   i 5 allow its attachment to the latter.   2. embedding box according to claim 1, characterized in that the engagement means (27) associated with each of the sections (26) of the foot (13) comprise a fitting portion (29), the means of engagement (28) provided on the box body (11)
