Abstract

An instrument for producing a temporary anaesthetic effect on the skin, e.g. before injection, consists of a heat conducting block (1) which is joined to or made in one piece with a thermal reservoir (2) which is cooled to a low temperature, e.g. in a refrigerator. The reservoir can be protected by an isothermal shell (3), and the block and reservoir assembly can be fitted with a handle (4), either fixed or detachable. The surface of the block which is applied to the skin can be flat, convex or concave.

Le composé -pastille et réservoir thermique- est porté à une température assez basse, à l'aide d'un réfrigérateur par exemple. Une fois froide, la pastille est mise en contact avec la peau pendant une période de courte durée. Grâce à l'énergie thermique froide fournie par l'inertie du réservoir, le dispositif anesthésie légèrement et localement le patient, permettant ainsi de diminuer l'anxiété et la future douleur.
