Abstract

The electro-magnetically actuated selector for a sequential gearbox for a motor vehicle comprises two buttons (1,2) for control. These provide increment and decrement commands respectively for the gear ratio in operation for the gearbox, the selector returning automatically to its neutral position after each action. Each button operates via a logic circuit (3,4) to control switching elements (18,19,28,29), with the operation of two electromagnets (12,13) providing movement of their cores to provide gear speed change in the required direction. The logic circuit sensing the end of movement of the cores comprises elements (20,21,28,29) cutting the supply to the electromagnet concerned to prevent successive gear changes when the button is held depressed.
