Abstract

The fuel injection pump has rotor and a distribution head. The fuel is pressurised by the centripetal motion of the pistons which slide in one or more passages formed in the rotor. A solenoid valve is in communication with the delivery circuit of the pump and discharges the circuit to low pressure when the solenoid valve is in the open position, but causing injection of the fuel by the injectors into the engine when the solenoid valve is closed. This configuration delivers higher injection pressures and avoids high injection pressure on the pistons at the moment when they pass over the peak of the cam.

Description

The present invention relates to fuel injection pumps for internal combustion engines.

Injection pumps are known which consist of a rotor and a distributor head. Said rotor is pierced with one or more transverse bores in which free pistons slide, the centripetal movement of which is controlled by a cam profile by means of rollers and roller rollers themselves sliding in housings provided for this purpose in said rotor.

The space between the pistons is connected by a central channel on the one hand to intake ducts and on the other hand to a discharge duct which is brought successively during the rotation of the rotor, opposite the outlets provided in the distributor head and each communicating with an engine injector.

The amount of fuel introduced into the rotor, therefore injected into the engine is controlled by a radial stop which limits the centrifugal stroke of the pistons and by a variable throttle controlled by an external regulator which can be mechanical, hydraulic or of any other nature.

Solenoid valves are also known which are used on other fuel injection systems and whose purpose is to close and open the communication between the high pressure pipe of these injection systems and the discharge zones where a lower pressure prevails. , said solenoid valve being controlled by a computer which can take into account as many parameters as desired.

The subject of the present invention is the combination of the two systems described above in order to produce a new fuel injection system which will be extremely simplified compared to existing systems while retaining the qualities thereof and which may be produced largely on the means existing manufacturers therefore at reduced cost.

The invention will be clearly understood on reading the following description made with reference to the attached diagrams.

In known operation, the filling of the fuel between the pistons (1) is done as indicated in FIG. 2, the delivery orifice being closed as indicated in FIG. 3 and the variable throttle possibly limiting the centrifugal stroke of the pistons.

In the next phase when the rotor C5) has turned in the head
distributor (57 as shown in Figure 4 the profile of the cam imposes
a centripetal movement with the rollers 3 and roller support) forcing the pistons
to get closer causing the fuel to evacuate through the orifice
delivery) as shown in Figure 5 while the intake ports Q are closed as shown in Figure 4.

In this invention, we remove the variable constriction G and we
add the orifice 11 in the distributor head and we put this orifice in
communication with the annular groove (i) of the solenoid valve G as
shown in Figure 6. Under these conditions, the filling of the volume between
the positions are done as before without limitation.

On voit donc
During the discharge phase, when the solenoid valve (i) is
open, the fuel is discharged towards the low pressure as
indicated in Figure 6 because the injector which is in communication with
the discharge opening, (ss) (figure 5) opens only for a pressure
high. On the other hand, when the solenoid valve is closed (see FIG. 6), the
delivery can only be made to the injector through the orifice). So we see
clearly that the start of injection is caused by the closure of
the solenoid valve (i) while the end of the injection is caused by the opening
of the said solenoid valve. We understand that with this device we can
move the injection in time as desired by moving the closure
of the solenoid valve, and you can control the amount of fuel injected by
controlling the closing time of the solenoid valve.
