Abstract

The method involves continually and remotely monitoring the positions of the players and the ball to the nearest centimetre using a refresh rate of less than 10ms. The position signals are transmitted to a computer (5) and to the referee and are used to determine the positions of the players from both teams and the ball in real time. This information allows the referee to make appropriate decisions e.g. when a corner kick should be awarded. Position finding is performed using a radio position finder or a high resolution and high definition, very short carrier radar.
