Abstract

A needle guard consists of a flexible vane (1) made from a metal or a plastic, e.g. PVC. One end of the vane is shaped to fit over the point (3) of the needle (4) and is equipped with a spring which is attached to the needle holder. The free end (5) of the vane can be pulled away from the needle to detach the guard and leave the needle exposed. After the needle has been used, e.g. for giving an injection, the spring returns the vane to its original position so that the point of the needle is covered again. The portion of the vane which covers the needle point can incorporate a disinfectant product to sterilise the needle after use, and where it is made from plastic it can have a metal liner.

On connait déjà un système de protection pour les utilisateurs des seringuts face aux risques d'infection dus aux mauvaises manipulations. Celui-ci consiste à ce qu'après l'injection et arrivé en bout de course, le retour du piston entraine la rétraction de l'aiguille dans la seringue. Cette aiguille étant décentrée, elle ne peut ressortir par l'orifice de la dite seringue et venir piquer. Toutefois, ce système comporte plusieurs inconvénients: - n exige que le piston aille en bout de course pour être efficace. En indice 9 de la figure 4 est mentionnée la seringue elle-meme. La lamelle peut être métallique ou même en matériau plastique (PVC par exemple). On conseille l'utilisation d'un matériau souple élastique afin de procurer le rappel et de tolérer la déformation sans modification de forme définitive.
