Abstract

The steering wheel (1) has a frame (2) with rim (1a) and trim (3). At the centre of the wheel there is a cushion (4) which is equipped with an inflatable airbag (6) contained within a compartment (7). The inflatable airbag (6) is activated by electrical contacts (5). These contacts have a first part which comprises the inner and downward facing surface of the trim (9) and a second part (10) located on the frame (2). The two parts are able to touch through holes (13) in a mask (12) when the trim is under pressure from the driver.
