Abstract

The marker consists of a label (1) which can be attached to the animal's rear leg or tail by a fastening strip (11). The label has a series of detachable elements (4) with colours and printed inscriptions (6-8) which indicate the nature of different treatment stages. The detachable elements are positioned in the sequence pertaining to the treatment and are removed by tearing along a perforated line (5) as each stage of treatment is carried out. Alternatively, the detachable elements can be in the form of removable self-adhesive strips attached to a backing layer. The marker can be made, e.g. from Tyvek (RTM) or a non-tear PVC and measures some 20 cm long by 6 cm wide. Its fastening strip measures 30 cm by 3 cm, and is made from a self-adhesive material such as Velcro (RTM).

Description

The present invention relates to a device for identifying animals subjected to veterinary treatment, guiding the application of the treatment protocol, monitoring the expiration of the waiting period and keeping track of the treatment carried out.

To be effective, veterinary drugs must be administered in accordance with the recommended protocols (number of injections, doses, intervals between injections, etc.).

The regulatory waiting times after the last injection must be respected to avoid the abnormal presence of drug residues in food of animal origin. Finally, it is desirable that the treatments carried out are recorded to facilitate the health management of the farm.

Currently, it is advisable for breeders, who are in charge of implementing the treatments in their flock, to fix an adhesive strip or a bracelet around the tail or a member of the treated animals to allow them to be identified physically.

But this band does not contain any information on the organ treated, the product used, the corresponding treatment protocol, the progress in this protocol and the operation of the day to be carried out, the duration of the waiting period and the time when it end. It is therefore recommended to write down all of this information on temporary media such as a camet or table and, at the end of the processing, keep a memory of it by recording it on a farm health record. The complexity of this procedure leads to many omissions on the part of breeders. In addition, the dispersion of information on different media means that often the breeder does not have the data he needs when and where he must intervene on the animal. This results in confusion and errors in the conduct of treatments, which are all the more frequent as the therapeutic protocols are more complex, the numbers of animals are greater and the workload of breeders is heavier.

The device according to the invention makes it possible to gather on a single support which is fixed on the animal all the information necessary for the correct realization of a treatment and to keep its memory. It is in fact made up, according to a first characteristic, of an adhesive strip secured to the tab of a label, the body of which includes printed information relating to the instructions for use of the medicament as well as recording ranges for manually recording relative information. to the treatment and which supports a series of adhesive strips allowing guidance of the operations to be carried out. These strips are arranged on the label in an order corresponding to the succession in time of the various operations of the protocol for the use of the drug and each indicates by a combination of color and signs such as a pictogram, numbers or letters, a particular operation to be carried out at a given time, for example an intramuscular injection or the sidelining of the animal's production.

When the veterinarian, the breeder or any other operator initiates a treatment, he withdraws the device from the medication box where it is placed, writes in the ranges of the label provided for this purpose information specific to the treatment such as the date of implementation and the number of the animal treated then fixes the entire device on the animal by wrapping the adhesive tape around the tail or a member.

Then, the farmer or any other operator responsible for continuing the treatment, takes off as he performs each of the successive operations of the protocol, the corresponding strap. The entire device is removed after detachment of the last strap which corresponds to the end of the waiting period. The label with the information it supports can then be retrieved and archived to keep track of the processing.

The label is made of a waterproof material on which it is possible to wear, with the usual markers and ballpoint pens, indelible inscriptions. It is strong enough to be washed before archiving.

According to particular embodiments: - the adhesive strips can have non-adhesive ends which facilitate their detachment by the operator.

According to the animal of destination and the part of the body on which the device must be fixed, according to the drug considered, the protocol of use and the corresponding waiting time, the realization of the device includes variations as to the dimensions of the label, its shape, the information and the adhesive strips it supports, the materials of its different constituents.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention for the particular case of a medicament intended for dairy cows which is administered by intramammary injection at 3 successive milkings with a waiting period of 3 additional milkings, the device in this example having to be fixed on the tail of the animal.

Figure 1 shows the device according to the invention seen from below, before laying on the animal.

FIG. 2 represents the device according to the invention seen from above, fixed on the tail of a cow at the start of treatment, before carrying out the first injection.

With reference to these drawings, the device comprises 2 main components: - a label (1) consisting of a body (2) of rectangular shape with rounded angles, and of a tab (3) in the shape of a T.

On the underside of the body of the label, are printed the name of the drug (4), the number and rhythm of the injections to be performed (5), the number of waiting drafts after the last injection (6). Spaces are provided for manually registering with a marker or a ballpoint pen with indelible ink of the usual type, the identity of the animal treated (7), the district concerned of the udder (8), the date and the milking of start of treatment (9), date and draft end of treatment (10), date and draft end of waiting period (1 1).

The upper face of the label supports a series of 6 adhesive strips (12) on all of their lower faces with the exception of the edges of their ends (13). The first three strips from the top of the label, which correspond to the drug administration phase, are distinguished by their color and by a pictogram (14) symbolizing the injection to be performed. The next three strips, which correspond to the waiting time to be respected after the last injection, are of another color with a different pictogram (15) symbolizing the separation of the animal's milk.

As an indication for this application, the body of the label (2) will have dimensions of the order of 1 5 cm long by 8 cm wide, the vertical branch of the T-tab (3) by 5 cm on 3 cm and its horizontal branch 2 cm high by 8 cm wide. The label will be made of a light, flexible, resistant and waterproof material such as for example a plastic canvas on which it is possible to carry inscriptions with markers or ball point pens. It can be siliconized on the face where the adhesive strips are stuck.

These will have dimensions of the order of 1 cm wide by 7 cm long with a non-adhesive border of approximately 0.5 cm at each end. A waterproof Chatterton type tape (registered trademark) may be suitable for this use.

The fixing band will have dimensions of the order of 3 cm wide by 11 cm long. An elastic and elastic band of the Elastoplast type (registered trademark) may be suitable. According to variants not illustrated, - the connection between the body of the label and the fixing strip is provided permanently by a cord or looped nylon cord which replaces the tab of the label.

Claims (9)

1) Device for identifying an animal subjected to veterinary treatment, guiding the application of the treatment protocol, monitoring the expiration of the waiting period and keeping track of the treatment carried out, characterized in that it includes a fixing strip (16) adhesive which is wrapped around the tail or of a member of the animal to be treated and to which the tab (3) is fastened with a label (1) which has on its body (2) printed information relating to the instructions for use of the medicinal product (4,5,6) as well as recording areas (7,8,9,10,11) where the operator can manually record information relating to the treatment and which supports a series of adhesive strips (12) whose color and inscriptions (14,15) indicate the nature of the operations to be carried out, the order of which on the label corresponds to the succession in time of the operations to be carried out in accordance with the protocol, and which are lifted off by the operator at f ur and as it performs the corresponding operations on the animal. 2) Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the adhesive strips (12) have non-adhesive ends which facilitate their detachment by the operator. 3) Device according to claim l or 2 characterized in that information is printed on the label under the adhesive strips (12) so as to be discovered after detachment thereof. 4) Device according to claim 1 characterized in that the label does not support any adhesive strip. 5) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a rope or a loop provides the connection between the fixing strip (16) and the body of the label (2). 6) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the adhesive fixing strip (16) is made of an elastic material. 7) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it is made of flexible materials which allow it to be folded to facilitate its accommodation in a medicine box. 8) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the label is made of a material on which it is possible to wear indelible inscriptions with the usual markers and ballpoint pens. 9) Device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the label is made of an impermeable and washable material to allow its archiving in good conditions.
