Abstract

The cage (1) for snaring live animals has an inlet opening (2) with a closing flap (17). The mechanism (7) for closing the flap is controlled by a part (4), displaced by the animal, suspended in the cage with its upper end (4a) fixed to an oscillating cam. A pivoting rod fixed to a plate forms a spring catch for retaining the flap. Displacement of the part (4) by the animal causes cam oscillation which then pivots the rod and frees the flap holder.The cage inlet opening (2) is surrounded by an inlet frame (18) which forms a flap stop. The flap is pivoted by a set of hinges fixed to the upper part of the frame. Initially the flap is held inside the cage along its upper part by the retaining catch and when released pivots and is stopped against the inlet frame.The cage is a reliable trap, not dependent upon the animal's weight, without any reduction in its passage cross section.
