Abstract

The electrical contact includes a shaft (13) having a number of openings, with glass balls (15) sealed into the openings by gluing, crimping or deforming the shaft. The operator inserts the cable (2) into the shaft (13) until the light passing through the openings (14) is obscured. When the core of the cable is aluminium, the shaft is gilded copper and the core is covered by an annealed silver ferrule (22) within the shaft. The ferrule may have holes which fix it in place by engaging with the balls. After correct insertion, the shaft, ferrule and core are crimped. The free end of the shaft is formed with a conical rim which is pushed back to make a seal at this end.
