Abstract

The present invention is tongs forming two jaws which are characterised either in that they are each composed of two branches facing each other in pairs, or in that they are formed of two branches each one facing a third branch common to the two jaws, in order to grip a nail or some other fastener (screw) by virtue of a spring device (3) tending to clamp the branches against each other and having another spring (4) allowing the separation between the branches to be sufficient at rest to hold the nail firmly and to narrow (close up) as the nail is driven into a support.

Description

The present invention relates to pliers for holding nails or other types of fixing (screws) when driving them into a support.

Indeed, the traditional pliers do not offer a sufficiently safe grip in this use and the various specialized pliers proposed so far are, to our knowledge, based on complex gripping systems leading to expensive products.

The object according to the invention is a clamp forming 2 jaws characterized either in that they each consist of 2 branches being made opposite 2 to 2, or in that they are formed of 2 branches each making opposite a third branch common to the 2 jaws, to enclose a nail or another type of fixing by means of a spring device (3) tending to clamp the branches one against the other and having another spring (4) allowing the spacing between the branches to be sufficient at rest to hold the nail securely and shrinks according to the driving of the nail into a support until the user judges the nail sufficiently fixed in the support to remove the clamp and finish the job without it.

This makes it possible to make a very simple pliers, therefore of a very affordable price, making it possible to drive the nails with precision, even in places which are difficult to access, without the risk of tapping on the fingers.

Figure 1 in the appendix represents a clamp according to a particular embodiment of the invention seen from above, at rest.

FIG. 2 represents another clamp model according to the invention in which the 2 jaws have a common branch.

Figure 3 shows another model of pliers according to the invention seen from above, when taking a nail.

FIG. 4 shows another model of pliers according to the invention seen in profile, at the time of driving in the nail.

According to a particular, very simple embodiment, the clamp therefore consists of 4 branches (1), each provided with a recess (2), which can be of parabolic interior shape, being made opposite 2 to 2 and thus forming 2 jaws that can grip a nail or any other type of fixing (screws, ...) thanks to a spring device (3) tending to tighten them one against the other. The spacing between the 2 pairs of branches forming jaws is itself variable thanks to another spring device: it is therefore sufficient at rest to hold the nail securely and it narrows as and when driving the nail into a support, the head of the nail approaches the said support.

When he wants to drive a nail, or other suitable fixing, the user will press on the branches in (4) to open the jaws to the maximum, he will slide between them the nail (5) and will leave the device (3) of spring close them in 2 points on the body of the nail to maintain it correctly. I1 will then use this rigid assembly to place with one hand the nail in the desired position with precision and to drive it in with the other with a hammer or any other tool at its convenience, without great risk of being struck on the fingers.

When he deems the nail sufficiently driven into the support (6) to hold it without holding, the user will again press the branches at (4) to disengage the clamp from the nail and the support.

The pliers must be made of a material strong enough to hold the nail firmly and not to fear shocks. In a particular embodiment, it must also be flexible enough to serve as a spring device thanks to a suitable shape (for example steel used to make certain clips, or certain plastics).

According to another embodiment, the branches can be perfectly rigid and attached to each other by a hinge (7) and a double spring system (3) and (4).

The actual clamp assembly can be, according to a particular embodiment, attached to a handle for easier gripping during use.

According to another particular embodiment, a stopper (10), for example of cylindrical rubber shape, can be attached to two of the branches by means of a sliding fastener (9) in order to strengthen the clamping of the jaws during insertion. .

According to a particular embodiment not illustrated in the appendix, two branches forming one of the jaws can be equipped with a telescopic elongation system in order to allow the nail to be presented at an angle relative to the axis of these branches and to favor thus driving nails into places that are difficult to access, for example corners.

According to a particular non-glossy embodiment, the shape of certain branches may allow the clamp to be placed against the support in order to firm the angle of driving the nail into this support.

The pliers according to the invention are particularly intended for DIY activities as well as, more generally, for activities requiring the driving of nails: carpentry, cabinetmaking, decoration, etc.

Claims (5)

1) Pliers forming 2 jaws characterized in that they each consist of 2 branches facing 2 to 2, to grip a nail or another type of fixing (screw) using a spring device (3 ) tending to clamp the branches 1 'against one another and having another spring (4) allowing the spacing between the branches to be sufficient at rest to hold the nail securely and shrinks according to the driving of the nail into a support. This spring system can be of all types, and in particular based on the flexibility of the material chosen to make the branches and on the shape given to them. 2) Pliers according to claim number one characterized in that the 2 jaws are formed of 2 branches each making opposite a third branch common to the 2 jaws. 3) Pliers according to any one of the preceding claims characterized by the addition of a handle to facilitate gripping. 4) Pliers according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by the addition between the legs forming the jaws of a bolt sliding along two of these branches in order to block the jaws when gripping a nail or any other adequate object. 5) Pliers according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized by providing the branches of one of the two jaws with a telescopic extension system, and blocking this extension, making it possible to modify the gripping angle of the nail or of the object with respect to the general axis of the pliers, in particular to facilitate the driving of nails in places of difficult access.
