Abstract

A lifting step device including a set of vertically movable members (1, 2, 3) each having at least two sides defining steps (1a, 2a, 3a) and risers (1b, 2b, 3b), at least one first and one second motor (4, 5) for vertically moving the first and last movable end members (1, 3) in the set, connecting means (6) for engaging the movable members (1, 2, 3) and enabling intermediate members (2) to be moved vertically as the first and last movable members (1, 3) are moved vertically, and means (7) for controlling and synchronising the motors (4, 5). Said connecting means (6) and said control and synchronisation means (7) enable the steps (1a, 1b, 1c) to be placed in alignment on a single essentially horizontal plane to provide a platform which can then be translated up or down between a lowered position and at least one raised position.
