Abstract

A compsn. for treating the internal surfaces of pipes used for circulation of functional liqs., esp. pipewok in central heating installations, comprises (by wt.): (i) 10-12% Na2CO3; (ii) 6-8% NaOH; (iii) 12-15% Na silicate, (iv) 12-14% anionic surfactant; (v) 8-10% reaction accelerator; and (vi) 40-50% water. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. are added to the circulating water e.g. in an amt. of 10% of the vol. of the water in the installation to soften and loosen surface scale on the internal surface of the pipework, esp. where this treatment is carried out for 10-20 days prior to a conventional descaling treatment. The compsns. are safe to handle without special precautions and give efficient softening and loosening of scale on the internal surface of pipework, e.g. in central heating installations, esp. as a predescaling treatment.
