Abstract

The procedure consists of placing an insert (7) in the mould before injecting the alloy used to make the arm. The insert is mounted on a hub with a diameter equivalent to that of the drive spindle (3). The insert (7) is of aluminium alloy, and the wiper arm is cast from a zinc alloy, using a mould which can cast a number of arms at one time. The aperture (2) in the insert has a ribbed inner surface to engage with a similar surface on the outside of the spindle. ADVANTAGE - Allows existing types of mould to be used to make wiper arms which have greater resistance to stresses.
